Titans Break Three Records In First Day Of WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh swimming & diving teams both broke relay records in the first day of the 2024 WIAC Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 14).

In the women's 800-yard freestyle relay, Cadence Showalter (Jr. • Naperville, Ill.), Francesca Schiro (Jr. • New Glarus), Brianna Smith (Sr. • Waterford) and Brianna Wesenberg (So. • Ripon) finished third with a time of 7:47.36, breaking their own record of 7:48.01 from last year's conference meet.

Amanda Richards (Jr. • Waterford), Bella Cichon (Fr. • Manhattan, Ill.), Showalter and Schiro placed fourth in the women's 200-yard medley relay with the second program record of the day, racing the event in 1:47.96. The record was last set by Katie Challoner, McKinzie Halkola, Alison Panske and Taylor Teske during the 2016 WIAC Championship at 1:49.05.

The men's 200-yard medley relay squad of CJ Willert (So. • Eau Claire), Damen Seremet (So. • Beaver Dam), Leo Ramirez-Gutierrez (Fr. • Schaumburg, Ill.) and Drew Davis (Jr. • Bakersfield, Calif.) set the program record with a fifth-place time of 1:36.47. The same squad had earlier set the record this season at the Carthage College Classic on Dec. 2.

In the final round of the 3-meter diving for the men, Glen Cole (Fr. • Milwaukee) finished eighth with 336.60 points

The women head into Thursday in a tie for third-place with UW-Stevens Point with 62 points and the men will enter tomorrow events in fifth place with 67 points. The first event is scheduled for 10 a.m.
