Titans Sink Red Hawks In Final Home Meet Of Season

Sydney Challoner, Jennifer Lutz and Alexandra Schuster won two events each as the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team concluded its home schedule for the 2018-19 season with a 138-62 victory over Ripon College on Saturday (Feb. 2) in Albee Hall.

The Titans claimed wins in 10 of the 11 contested events, including both relays. UW-Oshkosh also placed second in seven events.

Challoner secured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley with times of 1:12.55 and 2:19.73, respectively. She also teamed with Lutz, Rebecca Birriel and Alyssa Hassel for a winning time of 1:58.70 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Lutz earned her victories with times of 1:02.61 in the 100-yard butterfly and 1:04.39 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Schuster recorded her wins with freestyle performances of 26.13 seconds at 50 yards and 56.39 seconds at 100. She also swam with Hannah Cunningham, Rachel Jaworski and Tessa Shorten for a first-place time of 1:46.00 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Other winners for the Titans were Jaworski in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.60 and Shorten in the 500-yard freestyle with a swim of 5:47.38.

UW-Oshkosh's second-place finishes included the times of 26.34 seconds in the 50- and 56.80 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle by Cunningham and the times of 1:16.32 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:24.98 in the 200-yard individual medley by Birriel.

Also contributing second-place listings for the Titans were Shorten in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.20, Lexi Gray in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a performance of 12:10.63 and Emma Wilcher in the 100-yard butterfly with an effort of 1:11.57.

Hassel owned two of UW-Oshkosh's three third-place finishes with her times of 1:08.86 in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:16.60 in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Titans' Jaworski added a third-place time of 57.95 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Gray in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:02.90, Wilcher in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:36.44 and Brianna Beseler in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:41.98.

The Titans competed against Ripon College without the services of diver Johnna Seelman, who was representing UW-Oshkosh at Saturday's University of Illinois at Chicago Diving Invitational in Chicago, Ill.

Seelman placed 19th in both diving categories after totaling 124.10 points off the 1-meter board and 124.60 points off the 3-meter plank.

Ling Kuhn of the University of Illinois at Chicago defeated 18 other challengers in both diving events. She had winning scores of 277.30 in the 1-meter division and 341.70 in the 3-meter section.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Feb. 14-16 at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. UW-Oshkosh finished fourth at last year's championship with 409.5 points. The score was the highest by the Titans at the league championship since 2005.
