Titans Escape With Win Over Tritons

UW-Oshkosh accumulated 18 top-three finishes, including six first-place performances, during its 110-101 defeat of the Iowa Central Community College women's swimming & diving team on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Albee Hall.

The Titans entered the meet's 13th and final event with victory in hand and created the contest's ending score with a winning time of 3:51.18 in the 400-yard freestyle by Sydney Challoner, Hannah Cunningham, Rachel Jaworski and Alexandra Schuster.

Challoner, Cunningham and Schuster also provided UW-Oshkosh with one individual victory apiece against its first-time opponent.

Challoner took first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.31, Cunningham the 100-yard freestyle with a performance of 57.25 seconds and Schuster the 50-yard freestyle with an effort of 25.83 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh's Johnna Seelman won a pair of diving events by earning scores of 173.78 off the 1-meter board and 181.35 off the 3-meter plank.

The Titans' six second-place listings included Challoner's swim of 2:05.80 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Other runner-up finishes belonged to UW-Oshkosh's Rebecca Birriel in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:11.55, Lexi Gray in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:31.97, Jennifer Lutz in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.47 and Tessa Shorten in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.72.

The Titans opened the meet by having Birriel, Lutz, Shorten and Alyssa Hassel swim to a second-place time of 4:25.03 in the 400-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh's six third-place mentions included the freestyle swims of Cunningham, Gray and Lutz. Cunningham recorded a time of 26.54 seconds at 50 yards while Lutz went 2:08.18 at the 200 distance and Gray 5:59.82 at 500.

The Titans' remaining third-place results were owned by Birriel in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:43.63, Hassel in the 400-yard individual medley with a performance of 5:26.78 and Schuster in the 200-yard backstroke with an effort of 2:20.09.

Finishing fourth for UW-Oshkosh were Hassel in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:51.72, Jaworski in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.13 seconds, Shorten in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.80 and Emma Wilcher in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:40.74.

Next Saturday (Feb. 2), UW-Oshkosh's swimmers host Ripon College in Albee Hall while the team's divers perform at the University of Illinois at Chicago Diving Invitational.
