Titans Defeated By Seven-Time Defending WIAC Champion Eagles

UW-Oshkosh won two events, including the 100-yard breaststroke by Sydney Challoner, during its 159-67 women's swimming & diving defeat to seven-time defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Jan. 19) in La Crosse.

Challoner won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.93. She also finished second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:58.55 and helped Rebecca Birriel, Alyssa Hassel and Jennifer Lutz register a third-place time of 4:22.17 in the 400-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh's other event victory against the Eagles came in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The group of Hannah Cunningham, Rachel Jaworski, Tessa Shorten and Alexandra Schuster won the race with a time of 3:56.39.

The Titans had four other second-place finishes, including Birriel's time of 1:16.42 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Jaworski's time of 1:03.78 in the 100-yard freestyle. Other second-place listings went to Lexi Gray in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Jennifer Lutz in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 12:04.81 and 59.16 seconds, respectively.

Additional third-place performances for the Titans belonged to Gray in the 500-yard freestyle with a time 5:58.37, Hassel in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.37 and Jaworski in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.80.

UW-Oshkosh's fourth-place finishes featured the times of 5:09.26 in the 400-yard individual medley by Birriel, 1:05.87 in the 100-yard backstroke by Lutz and 26.06 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle by Schuster.

The Titans return to Albee Hall next Saturday (Jan. 19) to host Iowa Central Community College.
