Vikings Get The Better Of The Titans

Rebecca Birriel was the lone UW-Oshkosh event winner during the Titans' 165-62 loss to the Lawrence University women's swimming & diving team Saturday (Jan. 5) in Albee Hall.

Birriel won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.92. She also finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.39 and swam with Alyssa Hassel, Jennifer Lutz and Emma Wilcher to record a second-place time of 2:04.44 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh had five other second-place results, including two in the diving by Johnna Seelman. Seelman earned her runner-up listings with scores of 194.50 off the 1-meter board and 167.15 off the 3-meter plank.

In the pool, Sydney Challoner and Hannah Cunningham finished second with times of 1:02.36 in the 100-yard butterfly and 26.49 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, respectively.

Challoner and Cunningham also assisted Alexandra Schuster and Tessa Shorten in recording a second-place time of 1:47.11 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Titans owned six third-place finishes, including a pair by Lexi Gray. Gray was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a performance of 6:03.87 and the 1,000-yard freestyle with an effort of 12:20.54.

Other UW-Oshkosh third-place finishes went to Challoner with a time of 1:13.09 in the 100-yard breaststroke, Lutz in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.72 Schuster in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.12 seconds and Josie Ruckdashel in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:19.82.

UW-Oshkosh's fourth-place mentions concluded with the swims of 1:15.39 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 12:23.12 in the 1,000-yard freestyle by Brianna Beseler and the performance of 2:06.71 in the 200-yard freestyle by Schuster.

Next Saturday (Jan. 12), UW-Oshkosh will send its swimmers to Beloit for a meet with Beloit and St. Norbert colleges and its divers to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther College Invitational.
