Blugolds Defeat Titans In Season Opener
Sydney Challoner won a pair of races during the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & Diving team's 188-53 setback in the season opener at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 13).
Challoner finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.19 and claimed the 200-yard individual medley race in 2:22.57. She also swam a leg on the Titans' 200-yard medley relay team that placed fourth with a time of 1:59.10.
UW-Eau Claire won the remaining 11 events, including both diving competitions by Sarah Dahlik.
UW-Oshkosh's Jennifer Lutz was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.54. The Blugolds' Reilly Peterson narrowly won the race in 1:05.22.
Johnna Seelman placed third in 3-meter diving and fourth in the 1-meter event for the Titans with scores of 153.25 and 162.35, respectively. Dahlik produced winning totals of 183.40 on the 3-meter board and 191.40 in the 1-meter competition.
Also finishing fourth for UW-Oshkosh were Rebecca Birriel in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:02.40 and Alyssa Hassel in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.22. UW-Eau Claire's Anna Theisen won the 500-yard freestyle race in 5:37.57.
Joining Challoner on the Titans' fourth-place 200-yard medley relay squad were Lutz, Rachel Jaworski and Alex Schuster. UW-Oshkosh finished the race in 1:59.10 while UW-Eau Claire's winning squad finished in 1:53.92.
UW-Oshkosh's 200-yard freestyle team of Birriel, Hassel, Hannah Cunningham and Tessa Shorten placed fourth with a time of 1:49.48. The Blugolds claimed the race with a time of 1:42.46.
The Titans compete in the Wisconsin College Showcase next Saturday (Oct. 20) in Brown Deer.
