Kraus Finishes 16th At NCAA Diving Regional

UW-Oshkosh junior Gabrielle Kraus ranked 16th among 22 contestants in the women's 1-meter category at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 2-3) in Chicago, Ill.

Kraus, the lone Titan to qualify for the meet, totaled 356.50 points during her 11 dives off the 1-meter board to finish just 15 points out of 10th place.

Defending champion Sarah Bradley of Calvin College (Mich.) captured the 1-meter diving title with 430.65 points while Kayley Alioto of UW-La Crosse finished second with 409.90 and Nicki Bailey of Kalamazoo College (Mich.) third with 401.90.

Rounding out the top five scorers were fourth-place Madeline Jump of Kalamazoo College with 398.50 points and Naomi Clayton of Denison University (Ohio) with 395.70.

Kraus did not qualify for the regional in the 3-meter section. Bradley won that event as well after compiling 462.55 points.

Allison Fitzgerald of Denison University finished second among the 18 3-meter contestants with 451.30 points while Bailey placed third with 412.75 and Caroline Holverson and Alioto of UW-La Crosse fourth and fifth with values of 412.05 and 405.30, respectively.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Kraus was a regional qualifier for the third straight season. She finished 13th among 18 participants in the 3- and 18th among 19 contestants in the 1-meter diving at last year's regional in Grand Rapids, Mich. Kraus placed 13th among 24 entrants in the 3- and 20th among 28 candidates in the 1-meter diving at the 2016 regional held in Granville, Ohio.

Earlier this season Kraus finished fourth in the 1- and fifth in the 3-meter diving at the WIAC Swimming & Diving Championship held Feb. 15-17 in Brown Deer.

Alioto, Bailey, Bradley, Fitzgerald, Holverson, Jump and Kalamazoo College's Madeline Woods were all selected to represent Region 1 at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championship on March 23-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Other NCAA regional diving championships were held Friday and Saturday in San Antonio, Texas; Middlebury, Vt.; and Ithaca, N.Y.
