Culp Named WIAC Co-Coach Of The Year

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) named UW-Oshkosh's Christopher Culp as its 2018 Women's Swimming & Diving Co-Coach of the Year.

Culp, who shared the award with UW-Whitewater's Joel Rollings, led UW-Oshkosh to a fourth-place finish at the three-day WIAC Championship that concluded Saturday (Feb. 17) in Brown Deer. The Titans scored 409.5 points at the meet to record both their best finish and highest scoring value since placing fourth with 466 points at the 2005 league championship in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh scored points in 15 individual events at this year's championship, including 30 in the 200-yard breaststroke. The Titans also tallied 29 points in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 27 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Individually, UW-Oshkosh earned 17 top-10 finishes, including a second-place ranking by McKinzie Halkola in the 200-yard backstroke and a third-place listing by Sydney Challoner in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Culp is in his third season as the head men's and women's swimming & diving coach at UW-Oshkosh. He came to UW-Oshkosh from Concordia University Irvine (Calif.), where he served the 2014-15 season as a graduate assistant coach while finishing work on a Master of Arts Degree in Coaching and Athletics Administration.

Culp received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University (Calif.) in 1999. The Sacramento, Calif., native swam one year for the Gators and established school records in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Culp helped San Francisco State University finish 13th at the 1997 NCAA Division II Championship by placing 10th in the 100-yard butterfly, 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Culp is UW-Oshkosh's first WIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year selection since Andy Salm in 1997.
