Titans Soak Buccaneers

McKinzie Halkola won two events and swam on a first-place relay team as the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team defeated Beloit College, 171-50, on Friday (Jan. 19) in Albee Hall.

Halkola claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.33 and the 200-yard backstroke with a performance of 2:14.44. She also joined Sydney Challoner, Jennifer Lutz and Tessa Shorten in marking a winning time of 4:12.61 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh's 10 victories in the meet's 13 events also included a pair by diver Gabrielle Kraus. Kraus totaled winning scores of 264.90 in the 1-meter diving and 224.40 in the 3-meter diving.

Other Titans with winning efforts were Challoner in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.81, Lutz in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:16.22, Lexi Gray in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 20:14.71 and Eryn Schlotfeldt in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.13 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh also won the 400-yard freestyle relay as Gray, Schlotfeldt, Alison Panske and Davi Ruckdashel combined to post a time of 4:00.16.

Shorten and Rebecca Birriel both recorded a pair of second-place finishes for the Titans.

Shorten marked times of 58.26 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 2:04.94 in the 200-yard freestyle while Birriel tallied times of 2:38.47 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 5:07.54 in the 400-yard individual medley. Birriel also joined Brianna Beseler, Cortney Claypool and Emma Wilcher in registering a third-place time of 4:43.19 in the 400-yard medley relay.

The Titans' remaining second-place swims belonged to Challoner in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:18.59, Gray in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:56.28, Lutz in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:23.00 and Elizabeth Kelly in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 20:20.51.

UW-Oshkosh's Johnna Seelman added a pair of second-place dives. She compiled 144.15 points off the 1-meter board and 136.88 points off the 3-meter plank.

The Titans also picked up a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Kelly, Jennifer Anderson, Janelle Sharpee and Josie Ruckdashel combined for a time of 4:21.07.

Anderson and Panske owned four of UW-Oshkosh's remaining seven third-place finishes. Anderson recorded times of 2:47.13 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 5:11.20 in the 400-yard individual medley while Panske marked times of 58.44 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 2:08.45 in the 200-yard freestyle.

The Titans' other third-place results belonged to Claypool in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:31.98, Kelly in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:59.78 and Wilcher in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:37.84.

UW-Oshkosh's fourth-place performances included times of 2:44.19 in the 200-yard backstroke and 5:50.61 in the 400-yard individual medley by Josie Ruckdashel.

The Titans also received fourth-place times of 6:05.14 in the 500-yard freestyle from Claypool, 59.12 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle from Schlotfeldt and 28.24 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle from Davi Ruckdashel.

UW-Oshkosh hosts its final meet of the season on Saturday (Jan. 20) against six-time defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse in Albee Hall.
