Titans Finish Second At Gene Davis Invitational

Jennifer Anderson, Rebecca Birriel, Sydney Challoner, Cortney Claypool and Emma Wilcher recorded top-eight finishes in three events apiece as the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team placed second at Lawrence University's Gene Davis Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 18) in Appleton.

Carroll University won the six-team meet with 582 points while UW-Oshkosh finished second with 543 and Lawrence University third with 506. Lake Forest College (Ill.) placed fourth with 498 points, Ripon College fifth with 284 and Beloit College sixth with 167.

Challoner swam to victory in the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 2:21.54 and 2:35.26, respectively. She also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.78.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining first-place finish belonged to McKinzie Halkola. She won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.35 while ranking second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.61.

Anderson finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:52.00, fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:18.19 and seventh in the 400-yard individual medley at 5:19.56.

Birriel placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.66 and fourth with individual medley times of 2:24.51 at 200 yards and 5:06.98 at 400.

Claypool finished fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.30, seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 20:05.64 and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:51.56.

Wilcher ranked fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.97, seventh in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:37.25 and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:36.52.

The Titans three other second-place finishes, including a pair by Tessa Shorten who swam to freestyle times of 56.66 seconds at 100 yards and 2:06.20 at 200.

UW-Oshkosh's Jennifer Lutz placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.90 while finishing fifth in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:23.15.

Gabrielle Kraus earned the Titans' remaining third-place finish with her count of 383.13 points in the 1-meter diving. UW-Oshkosh's Johnna Seelman ranked fifth in the event with a score of 259.35.

UW-Oshkosh's Alison Panske achieved a pair of seventh-place finishes by marking freestyle times of 26.93 seconds at 50 yards and 58.62 seconds at 100.

The Titans had a pair of top-three finishes in the relays. The group of Halkola, Panske, Shorten and Eryn Schlotfeldt placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:53.79 while the quartet of Birriel, Lutz, Panske and Davi Ruckdashel finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:47.89.

UW-Oshkosh's next competition is at the three-day Carthage College Classic on Nov. 30 - Dec. 2 in Kenosha.
