Titans Suffer Season-Opening Setback To Blugolds

Sydney Challoner won two events as the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team opened its 2017-18 season with a 157-79 loss to 19-time WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Albee Hall.

Challoner took first place in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:04.26 and 1:13.09, respectively. She also swam with McKinzie Halkola, Jennifer Lutz and Alison Panske to record a second-place time of 1:57.11 in the 200-yard medley relay. 

Panske contributed a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with her time of 26.69 seconds while placing third in the 100-yard freestyle with a swim of 1:00.09.

Halkola finished second in a pair of individual events after posting times of 1:04.64 in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:06.87 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Other second-place results went to the Titans' Lutz in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.79, Rebecca Birriel in the 200-yard individual medley with an effort of 2:28.33, Johnna Seelman in the 3-meter diving with 101.30 points and Tessa Shorten in the 100-yard freestyle with a performance of 58.44 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh had three other third-place listings as Shorten marked a time of 2:09.40 in the 200-yard freestyle, Cortney Claypool a figure of 12:19.97 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Elizabeth Kelly a value of 6:11.21 in the 500-yard freestyle. 

The Titans' fourth-place mentions were completed by the 144.60 points of Seelman in the 1-meter diving, and the times of 1:17.45 by Birriel and 12:39.21 by Kelly in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1,000-yard freestyle, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Birriel, Shorten, Davi Ruckdashel and Eryn Schlotfeldt added a second-place time of 1:49.54.

The Titans will compete at the Wisconsin College Showcase next Saturday (Oct. 21) in Brown Deer.
