Challoner Paces Titans At Wisconsin College Showcase

Katie Challoner opened the 2014-15 season with a pair of sixth-place finishes to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team at the Wisconsin College Showcase held Saturday (Oct. 25) in Brown Deer.

Challoner placed sixth in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke races with times of 1:09.33 and 2:31.84, respectively. The 100-yard event featured 27 competitors, including winner Rachael Weiland from NCAA Division I member UW-Green Bay. Challoner bested all other Division III swimmers in the 200-yard breaststroke event of 24 swimmers, which was won by Natalie Johnson from Division I UW-Milwaukee.

Challoner also teamed with Britney Hilgendorf, Sara Keller and Taylor Teske for a ninth-place swim in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.69. UW-Milwaukee won the 16-team race with a time of 1:48.74. Challoner added a 20th-place showing in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:11.37.

Teske finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.46. She was the first D III swimmer to touch the wall among 38 competitors, including the winner, Madeleine Nelson, from UW-Milwaukee. Teske also added an 18th-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.70.

Also placing 10th for the Titans was the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Abby Langlotz, Maddy Langlotz, Alison Panske and Carissa Priebusch with a time of 4:00.50. UW-Green Bay won the event with a time of 3:33.52.

Katie Kubisiak placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. She finished the 100-yard race in 1:12.82 and the 200-yard event in 2:40.09. Kubisiak also teamed with McKinzie Halkola, Casey Houts and Liz Kelly for a 16th-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay.

Finishing 15th was UW-Oshkosh's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Paige Buress, Sarah Gee, Carolyn Patt and Laura Sullivan with a time of 4:10.10.

Patt added an 18th-place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.87 and a 20th-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:50.47. Sullivan also placed 22nd in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:53.12.

Other Titans turning in top-25 individual performances were Keller 18th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:39.07, Halkola 19th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:41.28 and 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.85, Hilgendorf 24th in both the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle with respective times of 2:26.58 and 5:45.78, and Panske 25th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.41.

Rounding out UW-Oshkosh's top-25 finishes was the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kara Atwood, Davi Ruckdashel, Janelle Sharpee and Jennifer Stassi that posted a 21st-place time of 4:38.39.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

The Titans' home opener is next Saturday (Nov. 1) against Carroll University in Albee Hall.
