Challoner Paces Titans At WIAC Championship
Katie Challoner established school records during both of her second-place finishes at the WIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship held this past weekend (Feb. 20-22) in Brown Deer.
Challoner set her school records in the breaststroke, marking times of 1:05.14 at 100 yards and 2:23.19 at 200. She was the lone Titan to finish in the top eight of an event.
Britney Hilgendorf swam to three UW-Oshkosh records. She finished 11th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:45.84 and 12th in the 500-yard freestyle with a swim of 5:15.26. Hilgendorf also ranked ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:04.09. Her time of 10:55.74 after 1,000 yards of the 1,650-yard freestyle set another school mark.
UW-Oshkosh diver Sally Hesby notched a pair of top-10 finishes. She placed ninth with 376.20 points off the three-meter board and 10th with 355.45 points off the one.
Katie Kubisiak owned the Titans' remaining 11th-place finish. She earned her mention with a time of 1:09.18 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Kubisiak also finished 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a performance of 2:30.89.
Other UW-Oshkosh performers finishing 12th were Halle Aldrich in the one-meter diving and Casey Houts in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Aldrich compiled 328.95 points, while Houts posted a time of 18:45.44.
UW-Oshkosh's Colleen Barnstable, Vanessa Jagodinsky and Jackie Wnuk all placed twice in finishes 13 through 16.
Barnstable finished 13th with 290.10 points in the three-meter diving and 16th with 245.90 in the one-meter diving. Jagodinsky marked both finishes in the butterfly, placing 13th with a time of 2:26.00 at 200 yards and 16th with an effort of 1:06.39 at 100. Wnuk finished 15th with a time of 1:12.61 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 16th in the 200-yard butterfly with a performance of 2:31.15.
Aldrich, Houts, Marissa Graff, Sara Keller and Carissa Priebusch achieved other UW-Oshkosh finishes in the top 16.
Aldrich placed 15th with 223.20 points in the three-meter diving and Houts 14th with a with a time of 2:16.20 in the 200-yard backstroke. Graff finished 14th with a time of 19:21.44 in the 1,650-yard freestyle, Keller 15th with an effort of 2:26.93 in the 200-yard butterfly and Priebusch 16th with a performance of 26.21 in the 50-yard freestyle.
UW-La Crosse's Brooke Reynolds was voted the Swimmer of the Meet, while UW-Eau Claire's Sara Axness received the Diver of the Meet award. Charlie King of UW-La Crosse was named the league's Coach of the Year.
UW-Oshkosh ranked fifth in the team standings with 253 points. UW-La Crosse compiled 893 points to claim its third straight crown and 14th overall.
UW-Eau Claire finished second in the six-team meet with 687 points, UW-Whitewater third with 665, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 632 and UW-River Falls sixth with 144.
