Titans Conquer Pioneers In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh had four double winners and captured both relays during a 158-71 victory over the Carroll University women’s swimming and diving team on Saturday (Oct. 29) in Albee Hall.

Melissa Harvey (Sr. • Kingsford, Mich.) and Emily Shandley (Jr. • Oak Creek) both won two individual events and swam on the triumphant 200-yard medley relay team. That squad posted a time of 1:58.57 with the help of Vanessa Jagodinsky (So. • Green Bay) and Carissa Priebusch (Fr. • Watertown).

Harvey achieved her first-place results in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.78 and the 100-yard backstroke with an effort of 1:03.87. Dominating the short freestyle events, Shandley clocked times of 25.38 at 50 yards and 55.40 at 100 yards.

The long freestyle competitions belonged to Marissa Graff (So. • Houghton, Mich.), who notched winning times of 5:46.62 at 500 yards and 11:47.66 at 1,000 yards. Allison Booth (So. • Middleton) gave the Titans two more wins with her diving figures of 183.07 at one meter and 191.10 at three meters. Samantha Sommers (Sr. • Suamico) gained first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.65, while joining Hannah Forcey (So. • Appleton), Britney Hilgendorf (Fr. • Madison) and Liz Schneider (Jr. • Madison) in capturing the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:47.45.

UW-Oshkosh received five second-place results, including two from Hilgendorf who completed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.69 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:21.09. Forcey took second in the 100-yard freestyle at 58.91, as did Schneider in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:51.84 and Lauren Klasen (So. • Green Bay) in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 12:34.91.

Jagodinsky recorded a pair of the Titans’ five third-place finishes. She tallied a times of 1:07.15 in the 100-yard butterfly and 2:30.66 in the 200-yard individual medley. Other finishes of third came from Priebusch in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.85, Schneider in the 200-yard freestyle with a figure of 2:10.37 and Sommers in the 50-yard freestyle with a value of 26.87.

The Titans’ next challenge is at UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Nov. 5).
