Titans Sink Red Hawks

Hannah Forcey (So. • Appleton) and Samantha Sommers (Sr. • Suamico) contributed three victories each as the UW-Oshkosh women’s swimming and diving team crushed Ripon College, 150-20, on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Ripon.

Forcey got her first individual triumph in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.97. In the 500-yard freestyle, Forcey and teammate Marissa Graff (So. • Houghton, Mich.) tied for the win by posting a time of 5:44.16.

The Titans then won the 400-yard freestyle relay a Forcey, Melissa Harvey (Sr. • Kingsford, Mich.), Liz Schneider (Jr. • Madison) and Trisha Smithers (Jr. • Racine) marked a time of 4:09.98.

Sommers compiled her wins with times of 26.79 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:04.88 in the 100-yard butterfly. Sommers also swam with Katie Duffey (Jr. • McFarland), Britney Hilgendorf (Fr. • Madison) and Emily Shandley (Jr. • Oak Creek) to record a first-place time of 4:29.10 in the 400-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh received two more winning efforts from Hilgendorf and Shandley. Hilgendorf prevailed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.07, while Shandley captured the 100-yard freestyle in 56.36.

Shandley also recorded a time of 1:11.86 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn one of the Titans’ six second-place finishes. Other second-place performances came from Duffey in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:06.27, Harvey in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:19.55, Schneider in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:12.93, Smithers in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:00.24 and Kathryn O'Brien (Fr. • Bay Village, Ohio) in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.59.

Lauren Klasen (So. • Green Bay) placed third with times of 1:05.56 in 100-yard freestyle and 2:22.12 in the 200-yard freestyle. Duffey added a third-place standing of 29.99 in the 50-yard freestyle, as did O'Brien in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:14.47 and Karen Thompson (So. • Brookfield) in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:24.33.

The Titans close their regular season by hosting the UW-Oshkosh Diving Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 11) in Albee Hall.
