Titans Perfect In Win Over Red Hawks

UW-Oshkosh won all 13 events as it cruised to a 174-35 triumph over the Ripon College swimming team on Saturday (Feb. 5) in Albee Hall.

The Titans captured both relays – the 400-yard medley in a time of 4:33.65 and the 400-yard freestyle with a mark of 4:05.01. Melissa Harvey (Jr. • Kingsford, Mich.), Emily Shandley (So. • Oak Creek) and Samantha Sommers (Jr. • Suamico) each booked two wins to lead the charge.

Harvey took the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.10) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.05). In the shorter freestyle events, Shandley gained first place at 50 yards (26.12) and 100 yards (56.04). Sommers obtained her wins with a 1:14.96 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 4:59.25 in the 400-yard individual medley.

Allison Booth (Fr. • Middleton) began the diving domination with her 153.85 on the one-meter board. The three-meter victory went to Leanne Bowen (So. • Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) with a mark of 192.35. UW-Oshkosh’s remaining wins came from Katie Duffey (So. • McFarland) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.98), Marissa Graff (Fr. • Houghton, Mich.) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.97) and Lauren Klasen (Fr. • Green Bay) in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 12:39.85.

Graff barely missed a win when she finished 0.50 seconds behind Sommers in the 400-yard individual medley. Vanessa Jogodinsky (Fr. • Green Bay) notched two second-place showings, using 1:07.81 for the 100-yard butterfly and 1:12.38 for the 100-yard backstroke.

UW-Oshkosh counted second-place listings thanks to Bowen in the one-meter dive (146.60) and Duffey in the 500-yard freestyle (5:55.93). Kathleen Cleppe (Fr. • Grafton) added a runner-up score with her 100-yard breaststroke time of 1:15.28, as did Trisha Smithers (So. • Racine) at 2:20.08 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Hannah Forcey (Fr. • Appleton) gained a pair of third-place performances in the 50-yard freestyle (26.85) and 100-yard freestyle (58.94). Smithers’ 500-yard freestyle time (6:10.67) and Kim Price’s (Sr. • Waukesha) 100-yard butterfly clocking rounded out the third-place efforts.

The Titans will compete in the WIAC Championship on Feb. 17-19 in Brown Deer.
