Titans Conquer Vikings
Marissa Graff (Fr. • Houghton, Mich.) defeated the field in
two events to lead the UW-Oshkosh women’s swimming and diving
team over Lawrence University, 124-107, on Saturday (Dec. 10) in
Albee Hall.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Graff glided to a time of 11:32.03 to
take first. She then equaled that feat in the 100-yard backstroke
with her mark of 1:08.18.
The Titans had five other individual champions as Kathleen Cleppe
(Fr. • Grafton) passed her opponents with a time of 1:15.42 in
the 100-yard backstroke. Emily Shandley (So. • Oak Creek)
followed by dominating the competition in the 50-yard freestyle
(25.74). UW-Oshkosh also received first-place scores from Samantha
Sommers (Jr. • Suamico) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.96),
Allison Booth (Fr. • Middleton) in the one-meter dive (180.10)
and Leanne Bowen (So. • Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) in the
three-meter dive (165.05).
Booth began the list of second-place showings when she tallied a
152.40 in the three-meter diving competition. Bowen was right
behind Booth to earn second place with a score of 158.40 at one
meter. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Heather Statz (Sr. •
Sun Prairie), Kim Price (Sr. • Waukesha), Katie Duffey (So.
• McFarland) and Vanessa Jagodinsky (Fr. • Green Bay)
listed second with a time of 1:49.08. Shandley, Sommers, Cleppe and
Mel Harvey (Jr. • Kingsford, Mich.) teamed up to finish just
behind the winner in the 200-yard medley relay (2:05).
In the 500-yard freestyle, Sommers fought her way to a time of
5:43.35 for the runner-up standing. Harvey also took second with a
time of 2:05.09 in the 200-yard freestyle, as did Duffey in the
200-yard individual medley (2:27.36). Harvey tacked on third-place
performances as she posted times of 1:09.63 in the 100-yard
backstroke and a 57.78 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Statz survived the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:11.44 to
take third. In the 200-yard medley relay, Graff, Hannah Forcey (Fr.
• Appleton), Lauren Klasen (Fr. • Green Bay) and
Elizabeth Johnson (Fr. • Madison) rallied together to place
third with a time of 2:10.97. Two other third-place results came
from Jagodinsky in the 200-yard individual medley (2:32.40) and
Forcey in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.48).
The Titans face UW-La Crosse on Jan. 15 in Albee Hall.
