Falcons Edge Titans On First-Half Penalty Kick Goal

Mariah Troje scored the decisive goal on a penalty kick during the 37th minute of play as the UW-River Falls women's soccer team defeated UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, on Saturday (Oct. 26) in River Falls.

Troje earned her match-winning kick after UW-Oshkosh was called for a foul in the penalty box area at the 36:17 mark of the contest. The goal was Troje's team-leading ninth of the season.

UW-River Falls (9-8-1, 2-3-1 WIAC) took a quick 1-0 lead on Lindsey Jack's eighth goal of the year just 6:28 into the match.

The Falcons' one-goal lead didn't last long as UW-Oshkosh's Mallory Knight scored in the game's 11th minute (10:42) to tie the score. The goal for Knight was her team-leading fifth of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (6-9-1, 2-3 WIAC) owned a huge 35-16 advantage in shots The Titans attempted 12 shots in the first half and 23 in the second.

A total of 13 Titans attempted shots, including Knight who launched six, Maddie Morris who fired five and Rylie Kaufmann who discharged four.

The Titans had eight of their 35 shots saved by UW-River Falls goalkeeper Haley Crosby, with the last being a block off a shot attempted by Morris with 7:17 remaining.

UW-River Falls totaled 16 shots, including four from both Camryn Altnau and Maggie Koehler.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan tallied seven saves, including four in the second half.

The Titans earned four of the game's six corner kick opportunities.

UW-Oshkosh closes its regular season with home matches at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium against North Central College (Ill.) on Wednesday (Oct. 30) and UW-Platteville on Saturday (Nov. 2).
