Titans Defeated by Warhawks

Goalkeeper Sara Klimisch saved four shots to preserve UW-Whitewater's 2-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Klimisch denied UW-Oshkosh shots by Emily Burg in the game's 19th minute, Tory Schumann in the 30th, Addie Schmitz in the 75th and Mallory Knight in the 76th.

UW-Oshkosh (3-7-1, 0-2 WIAC) finished the contest with 10 shots overall and three corner kick opportunities. The Titans, who attempted five shots in each half, were led by the three shots from Schmitz and the two from both Burg and Ashley Baalke.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan kept the Titans within reach of the Warhawks by stopping five of the seven shots she faced. Runyan blocked three shots from Anna Boyd (5th, 33rd and 76th minute) and one from both Elizabeth Klein (20th) and Elli Wahlberg (24th).

UW-Whitewater (7-4-2, 1-0 WIAC) totaled 13 shots while earning four corner kicks. The Warhawks, who recorded their fourth straight victory, were paced by the five overall shots from Boyd.

UW-Whitewater broke a scoreless contest with Boyd's goal during the 39th minute (38:48) of activity. Her 8-yard kick off a breakaway was assisted by Olivia May.

The Warhawks increased their lead over the Titans to 2-0 on Wahlberg's goal in the 51st minute (50:24). Her 5-yard kick followed a pass from Carli Nehls.

Wednesday's match was the 36th between the teams. The Warhawks now lead the all-time series by a 17-16-3 count.

UW-Oshkosh continues WIAC play with its match on Saturday (Oct. 12) against UW-Stout. The game will be contested at UW-River Falls.
