Titans Celebrate A Win In Their Home Opener

Three different players recorded goals as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team opened its eight-match home schedule with a 3-1 victory over Dominican University (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 14) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Scoring goals for the Titans (2-3) were Emily Burg in the game's 16th minute (15:34), Mallory Knight in the 54th (53:11) and Amber Richter in the 85th (84:44). It was the third goal of the season for Knight and the first for both Burg and Richter.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead on Burg's unassisted goal. Her 10-yard scoring kick followed the rebound of a shot that she launched just seconds earlier.

The Titans doubled their advantage over the Stars (3-1) on a goal from Knight. Assisting on her scoring kick from 20 yards out were Ashley Baalke and Alyssa Gunderson.

Dominican University, which participated in the NCAA Division III postseason last fall after winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship, sliced its deficit to the Titans in half on Josseline Williams' goal in the 76th minute (75:32). Her 8-yard scoring header came off a corner kick from Maggie McClure.

UW-Oshkosh then closed the game's scoring on Richter's 17-yard unassisted kick.

The Titans' 10 shots for the match featured three from both Burg and Addie Schmitz.

Dominican University attempted 13 shots, including five from Williams and three by Regan Coxon.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan earned her first win of the season by saving six shots. Runyan recorded two saves before the Titans scored their first goal and tallied two more saves with UW-Oshkosh clinging to a one-goal lead.

Dominican University goalkeeper Abbey Brown saved one shot while allowing all three UW-Oshkosh scores. Her lone save was against Quinlan Thompson's kick during the 73rd minute of activity.

Dominican University entered Saturday's match with three consecutive shutout victories, including a 4-0 decision over Olivet College (Mich.) on Sept. 11 and a 2-0 result over Elmhurst College (Ill.) on Aug. 30.

UW-Oshkosh and Dominican University were playing each other for the third time and the first since the 2002 season. The Titans have won all three matches in the series.

UW-Oshkosh will visit Ripon College on Wednesday (Sept. 18).
