Duhawks' Lone Goal Enough To Edge Titans

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team suffered its third 1-0 defeat in four games when Loras College (Iowa) edged the Titans on Sunday (Sept. 8) in Dubuque, Iowa.

Loras College, which advanced to the second round of last year's NCAA Division III Championship after winning the American Rivers Conference title, tallied its only goal against UW-Oshkosh on Jenny Wick's assisted score by Emily Robinson during the game's 56th minute (55:41) of play.

UW-Oshkosh (1-3) was held to six shots Sunday, two apiece by Mallory Knight, Addie Schmitz and Tory Schumann. The Titans' lone shot on goal was Schumann's kick that was saved by Duhawk goalkeeper Kaylee Coble with 7:20 (37:40) left in the first half.

Loras College (4-0) totaled 24 shots in the contest, including five by Brynn Jacobi and four by Wick.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan saved six Loras College shots, including boots by Jacobi in the game's 42nd and 86th minute. Other Runyan saves were off of shots launched by Braylin Mensik in the 11th minute, Robinson in the 13th, Payton McDonnell in the 37th and Taylor Trovato in the 61st.

Loras College, which has kept three of its four opponents of the 2019 season scoreless, posted a 9-2 advantage over UW-Oshkosh in corner kicks.

Sunday's match was the seventh between the teams. Loras College leads the all-time series by a 5-2 tally after winning its second straight contest over the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh will host Dominican University (Ill.) in its home opener on Saturday (Sept. 14) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Stars claimed the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship last fall and lost their opening round match of the NCAA postseason.
