Early Second-Half Goals Lead Titans To Win Over Tigers

Mallory Knight scored twice while Addie Schmitz recorded the match-winning goal during the 49th minute of activity as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team defeated DePauw University (Ind.), 3-1, on Saturday (Aug. 31) in Richardson, Texas.

UW-Oshkosh (1-1) took control of the Tigers (0-1) on goals by Schmitz and Knight during a 102-second span early in the second half. Schmitz broke a 1-1 deadlock with her goal at the 48:11 mark of the contest while Knight gave the Titans a little extra cushion with her score at 49:53. Both goals were unassisted.

Knight opened the scoring for UW-Oshkosh with her goal off a pass from Schmitz just 80 seconds into play. Knight's multiple-goal match was the second of her career, with the other occurring during last year's UW-Oshkosh win (2-1) over UW-Stout.

UW-Oshkosh, which lost a 1-0 decision to the University of Texas at Dallas in its season opener on Saturday (Aug. 30), held its one-goal advantage over DePauw University until the Tigers' Sophia Silcox scored off a pass from Abbie Morris during the game's 38th minute (37:28).

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey preserved the Titans' first win of the season by blocking six DePauw University shots, including a pair by Allison Harvey during the contest's 12th and 20th minute. Toomey also recorded saves off of shot taken by Madison Smith in the 10th minute, Anissa Nourse in the 21st, Shaili Kumar in the 81st and Alex Berkley in the 87th.

The lone save registered by DePauw University goalkeeper Reanna Stiehler was off a shot launched by Schmitz during the game's 85th minute.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the match with 10 shots. Knight and Schmitz discharged four shots apiece while Maddie Morris and Tory Schumann both fired once.

DePauw University totaled 16 shots. Harvey paced the Tigers with four shots while Nourse owned three and both Silcox and Jillian Snow two apiece.

DePauw University posted a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Saturday's victory improved UW-Oshkosh's all-time record against DePauw University to 1-1-1. The teams hadn't played since the Tigers eliminated the Titans on an overtime shootout during the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championship.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Dubuque, Iowa, next weekend for matches at the University of Dubuque on Saturday (Sept. 7) and Loras College on Sunday (Sept. 8).
