Comets' Lone Score Ruins Titans' Season Debut

Sofia Munoz scored the contest's lone goal in the 55th minute of action to give the University of Texas at Dallas a 1-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Friday (Aug. 30) in Richardson, Texas.

Munoz spoiled UW-Oshkosh's 2019 season opener by kicking a six-yard shot past Titan goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan at the 54:20 mark of the match. Munoz earned her score by winning a scramble in front of the UW-Oshkosh goal following a University of Texas at Dallas corner kick.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1), which was playing in the state of Texas for the first time, was held to just six shots. Three of those strikes, kicks by Mallory Knight in the 12th minute, Grace Herrmann in the 45th and Addie Schmitz in the 50th, were saved by University of Texas at Dallas goalkeeper Morgan Sherman. Knight and Schmitz finished the match with two shots each.

The University of Texas at Dallas launched 17 shots at the UW-Oshkosh goal. The Comets (1-0) were led by the four shots from Munoz and the three apiece from Bailee Davis, Keely Fillman and Stephanie White.

UW-Oshkosh's Runyan tallied four saves as she stopped University of Texas at Dallas shots discharged by Davis in the 11th and 68th minute and Munoz in the sixth and 86th.

The Titans led in corner kicks by a 4-2 count.

The University of Texas at Dallas, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, entered Friday's match with 32 victories in its previous 39 contests (32-6-1 record).

UW-Oshkosh remains in Richardson to play DePauw University (Ind.). The Titans haven't played DePauw University since the Tigers eliminated UW-Oshkosh on an overtime shootout during the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championship.
