Blugolds' First-Half Goal Enough To Edge Titans

Emily Sullivan scored the game's only goal and Sammie Lefaive saved three shots as the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, on Saturday (Oct. 13) in Eau Claire.

Sullivan helped the Blugolds snap a seven-match losing streak to the Titans by recording her seventh goal of the season in the 36th minute (35:23) of play. Sullivan's goal followed a pass from Krista Koenig.

UW-Oshkosh (5-8-1, 2-2 WIAC) was held to five shots and three corner kicks. The Titans had three shots blocked by Lefaive, kicks by Kylee Brown in the 50th and 54th minute and Maddie Hill in the 57th.

UW-Eau Claire (5-6-1, 2-1-1  WIAC) totaled 17 shots, including seven on goal, and three corner kicks. Sullivan and Zoellner led the Blugolds with five shots apiece.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey saved six of the seven shots she faced, including kicks by Blugolds Sullivan, Monica Zoellner and Mercedes Wilson that were blocked within a 60-second span late in the second half.

The Blugolds just missed scoring a goal in contest's 29th minute as a kick by Emma Stange bounced off the post.

UW-Oshkosh continues WIAC play with a match against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Oct. 17) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
