Women’s Soccer Program Receives Team Academic Award

The United Soccer Coaches gave the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer program a Team Academic Award for its outstanding success in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year.

UW-Oshkosh, which compiled an overall team grade-point average of 3.27 this past year, was one of 484 women's collegiate soccer teams recognized. Among the other teams honored were UW-Oshkosh's WIAC companions UW-Eau Claire (3.40), UW-La Crosse (3.49), UW-Stevens Point (3.45) and UW-Whitewater (3.56).

To qualify for the Team Academic Award, a program must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The award runs a year behind the competition calendar since it also includes academic results from the spring semester.

NCAA Division II member Bellarmine University (Ky.) had a nation-leading grade-point average of 3.79 during the 2017-18 academic year while NCAA Division I affiliates Rice University (Texas) and St. John's University (N.Y.) followed at 3.77 and 3.76, respectively.

Since the award was instituted in 1996, UW-Oshkosh has won the United Soccer Coaches' (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Team Academic Award five times. The Titans previously earned the award in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

The 24 members of head coach Erin Coppernoll's team that achieved a 3.0 grade-point average during the 2017-18 academic year were Taylor Arnold, Emily Burg, Jessica Galason, Erin Gruber, Kendra Jepson, Delaney Karl, Mallory Knight, Toria Koch, Maddie Morris, Kalista Paszczak, Abby Person, Danielle Reptowski, Felicia Retrum, Madelyn Runyan, Kaitlyn Schauer, Michaela Schenk, Addie Schmitz, Amber Siewert, Taylor Simkowski, Madison Smith, Erin Toomey, Ally Vandenbeg, Hannah Zacher and Hallie Ziegler.

UW-Oshkosh, which has suffered just one losing season since 2000, tallied an 8-8-4 record and placed third in the WIAC in 2017.
