Nationally Ranked Maroons Shut Down Titans

The nationally ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team scored six minutes into the match and then added two more first-half goals as it defeated UW-Oshkosh, 4-0, on Sunday (Sept. 16) in Chicago, Ill.

Jenna McKinney owned two of the Maroons' scores, including the match winner off a pass from Hanna Watkins at the 5:51 mark of the contest.

McKinney later gave the University of Chicago a 4-0 lead when she followed a pass from Charlotte Waechter and tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season during the game's 72nd minute (71:52).

The University of Chicago (5-0-1), which played in the championship match of last year's NCAA Division III postseason tournament, extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Sydney Mathis in the 32nd minute (31:33).

Nicole Willing accounted for the Maroon's third goal of the match with her score off a pass from Nikola Charouzova during the 35th minute (34:02).

UW-Oshkosh (3-3-1) was limited to just two shots. Both shots were attempted in the second half, including Mary Schmidt's kick that was saved by University of Chicago goalkeeper Katie Donovan in the 69th minute.

Donovan guarded the University of Chicago goal in the second half after Miranda Malone played the first half and didn't face a shot.

The University of Chicago, which had won 26 of its last 28 home matches (26-1-1), attempted 28 shots against the Titans, including 14 on goal.

McKinney and Watkins both fired four shots while Mathis and Adrianna Vera launched three apiece.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey played the entire match and saved 10 of the 14 shots she faced. Toomey had five saves in each half.

The Maroons, who entered Sunday's game ranked third in the NCAA Division III by the United Soccer Coaches, recorded nine of the contest's 11 corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its four-match road trip at Carthage College on Wednesday (Sept. 19).
