Titans, Falcons Unable To Settle WIAC Opener

UW-Oshkosh tied the score with a goal early in the second half and settled for a 1-1 overtime result with the UW-River Falls women's soccer team on Saturday (Sept. 30) in River Falls. The contest was the first of seven WIAC contests for both squads.

UW-River Falls (3-6-1, 0-0-1 WIAC) struck quickly against UW-Oshkosh (3-5-2, 0-0-1 WIAC) with a goal just 108 seconds into play. Maggie Koehler gave the Falcons the lead with a kick that followed passes from Erika Lagoon and Abby Soderholm.

The Titans trailed the Falcons until Addie Schmitz evened the score with an unassisted goal during the game's 50th minute (49:26). The score marked the first collegiate goal for Schmitz.

UW-River Falls finished the match with 21 shots after totaling 17 in regulation and four during the two extra 10-minute periods. The Falcons were led by the seven shots from Soderholm, the five from Kayla Windingstad and the two each from Koehler, Carrie Anderson and Mariah Troje.

UW-Oshkosh launched 12 shots in regulation and three in overtime to reach its overall count of 15. The Titans received four shots from both Schmitz and Kendra Jepson and two from Hannah Zacher. Jepson had a chance to give UW-Oshkosh the victory during the game's 105th minute (104:34), but her kick bounced off the post.
