Titans Unable To Catch Pointers

UW-Stevens Point ended a six-match losing streak with a stunning 2-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Wednesday (Oct. 19) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Pointers, who also entered the contest winless in four conference matches, broke a scoreless debate with the Titans by scoring twice during the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Following a first half in which both teams tallied just one shot on goal, UW-Stevens Point (5-11, 1-4 WIAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead when Kortnee Hass scored off a pass from Amanda Maestas during the contest's 47th minute (46:26) of action.

UW-Stevens Point then doubled its advantage when Reilly Louko scored off a serve from Elise Thout in the game's 60th minute (59:09).

UW-Oshkosh (7-7-1, 2-3 WIAC) sliced its deficit to 2-1 when Alyssa Arnold scored off a cross from Robyn Elliott in the 75th minute (74:29). Arnold's 5-yard scoring kick marked her fourth goal of the season.

The Titans owned all five shots during the contest's remaining 15 minutes, including two by Rachel Elliott and one by Robyn Elliott that were saved by UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Sarah Peplinski. Peplinski had five saves for the Pointers overall.

UW-Oshkosh finished the match with 14 shots and six corner kicks. Rachel Elliott had six shots and Robyn Elliott three to lead the Titans.

UW-Stevens Point concluded play with 10 shots and four corner kicks. Louko and Thout paced the Pointers with three shots apiece.

Runyan saved three shots while protecting the UW-Oshkosh goal.

UW-Oshkosh visits UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 22) for its final regular-season road match of the season.
