Titans Unable To Silence The Thunder

All the scoring took place in the first half as Wheaton College (Ill.) held on for a 2-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Saturday (Sept. 24) in Wheaton, Ill.

Wheaton College scored the first two goals of the contest and finished the match with advantages of 25-6 in shots, 17-5 in shots on goal and 7-0 in corner kicks.

The Thunder grabbed a 1-0 lead when Chelsea Gnan scored with an 18-yard kick off an Anna Saunders throw-in during the 28th minute (27:14) of play.

Wheaton College (2-6) then doubled its lead when Sarah Frey converted a 20-yard kick in the 43rd minute (42:30).

Wheaton College's two-goal advantage didn't last long as UW-Oshkosh (5-4) was the benefactor of a tackle in the penalty box during the 44th minute (43:39). Alek Kleis was called upon to execute the penalty kick for the Titans and she successfully sailed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.

The second half went scoreless despite 14 shots launched by the two teams. UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Jessica Galason kept the Titans within one score of tying the Thunder by saving eight second-half shots.

UW-Oshkosh's six overall shots included two from both Rachel Elliott and Robyn Elliott, while Wheaton College's 25 featured six from Frey, five from Autumn Rasmussen and four from Morgan Whitman.

Galason finished the contest with 15 saves, while Wheaton College goalkeeper Kathryn McGregor tallied four. McGregor stopped a pair of UW-Oshkosh shots in each half.

UW-Oshkosh plays at the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday (Sept. 29).
