Titans, Raiders Unable To Settle Dispute

Rachel Elliott and Maddie Morris both scored goals as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie with the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday (Sept. 29) in Milwaukee.

The teams tallied all of their goals in the first half before going scoreless in the second period and the two 10-minute overtime sessions.

Milwaukee School of Engineering (6-2-1) owned the only leads of the contest as Kelsey Hailey and Sara Travia each scored for the Raiders.

Hailey gave her team a 1-0 advantage when she sailed a 25-yard free kick into the goal during the 14th (13:58) minute of play. The Raiders later took a 2-1 lead on Travia's score in the 26th minute (25:13). Carley Mitus was credited with an assist on Travia's team-leading eighth goal of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (5-4-1) drew even with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Rachel Elliott's goal during the 20th minute (19:21). Robyn Elliott freed her sister down the near side and Rachel Elliott raced into the box and blasted a shot into the net for her team-best fourth goal of the season.

The Titans created a 2-2 score when Maddie Morris tapped in Rachel Elliott's missed shot during the 35th minute (34:56). The goal by Morris was her first of the season.

The second half went scoreless and the overtime periods the same way. The only real drama came in the closing seconds of the second extra period when Milwaukee School of Engineering goalkeeper Mary McFee extended her arms to stop an AJ Jackson kick with 20 seconds left.

Milwaukee School of Engineering led UW-Oshkosh shots, 21-20, and corner kicks, 5-3. The Raiders had a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Rachel Elliott led UW-Oshkosh with seven shots, while Morris, Alexis Brewer, Robyn Elliott, Megan Paulick and Felicia Retrum followed with two apiece. The Raiders were led by the six shots from Caitlin Liddiard and the five from Travia.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeepers Michaela Schenk and Madelyn Runyan combined for 13 saves. Schenk allowed two goals and saved five shots during 45 minutes of action while Runyan stopped all eight shots she faced in 65 minutes of activity.

McFee allowed both UW-Oshkosh scores and saved seven shots while protecting the Milwaukee School of Engineering goal.

The contest was a matchup of teams who both appeared in last year's NCAA Division III postseason tournament.

UW-Oshkosh opens WIAC play by hosting UW-River Falls on Saturday (Oct. 1) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
