Visiting Titans Upset 21st-ranked Duhawks

Robyn Elliott scored the decisive goal while Jessica Galason saved nine shots as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team upset 21st-ranked Loras College (Iowa), 1-0, on Thursday (Sept. 22) in Dubuque, Iowa.

Elliott attempted six of UW-Oshkosh's 12 shots against the Duhawks, including a 40-yard kick that lofted over Loras College goalkeeper Michelle Loyo and bounced into the net during the 55th (54:39) minute of play. Elliott's two goals this season have both been match winners.

Galason turned in a strong goalkeeping performance for the Titans and earned her second shutout of the season by stopping seven Loras College shots in the first half and two in the second. Her last save came off a Hannah Burgmeier header with 7:45 remaining.

UW-Oshkosh (5-3) had five other players attempt shots, including Alyssa Arnold, who launched two.

Loras College (4-2), which lost to UW-Oshkosh for the second straight season, had eight players combine to total 26 shots. The nine shots from Elizabeth Mills, eight from Gretchen Schutz and three from Burgmeier led the Duhawks.

In addition to its nine shots on goal, Loras College also had a kick by Mills bounce off the post in the third minute and a boot by Schutz glance off the crossbar in the 65th.

The Duhawks' Loyo finished the contest with six saves – two in the first half and four in the second.

UW-Oshkosh's victory over Loras College marked its third win this season over an opponent from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Titans earlier defeated the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Sept. 3 and Wartburg College (Iowa) on Sept. 18.

UW-Oshkosh visits Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 24).
