Titans Defeated On Late Penalty Kick

The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) scored all three of its goals in the second half, including the match winner on a penalty kick during the 83rd minute, to defeat the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team, 3-2, on Monday (Sept. 6) in St. Joseph, Minn.

Taylor Hedin drew a foul inside the box and recorded the winning goal for the Blazers with her penalty kick at the 82:43 mark.

The College of Saint Benedict (3-0) held on for the victory by limiting UW-Oshkosh (2-1) to just one scoreless shot, an attempt by Maddie Morris at the 88:11 mark, during the remaining seven minutes.

UW-Oshkosh, which was playing its third game in five days, took a 1-0 lead on Madison Smith's first collegiate goal late in the first half. Smith took a pass from Katelyn Fladten and beat Blazer goalkeeper Heather Kaluzniak with her shot during the game's 39th minute (38:11).

The Titans maintained their advantage until the College of Saint Benedict's Jenna Kleason headed Olivia Musser's corner kick into the net during the 53rd minute (52:49).

Less then two minutes later (54:21), Cecilia Lovinger took a deflection off the foot of Brooke DeMets and scored to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead.

UW-Oshkosh created a 2-2 tie when Rachel Elliott scored off a serve from Taylor Arnold during the contest's 69th minute (68:18). The goal was Elliott's second of the season.

The College of Saint Benedict outshot UW-Oshkosh, 19-11, and posted a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Blazers had 15 of their shots on goal, three times the amount (5) of the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Jessica Galason played the entire match and saved eight of her 11 shots in the second half. The Titans also had a defender record a team save.

The College of Saint Benedict, which improved to 10-1-1 against UW-Oshkosh, split its goalkeeping duties evenly. Kaluzniak allowed one goal and saved two shots in the first half while Kendall Koenen allowed one goal and stopped one shot in the second.

UW-Oshkosh returns to Northeastern Minnesota on Saturday (Sept. 10) for a match in Duluth against The College of St. Scholastica.
