Titans Lose NCAA Postseason Match In Overtime

Olivia Muyres' overtime goal was the difference as Augsburg College (Minn.) defeated UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, in a first-round match of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship held Saturday (Nov. 15) in Chicago, Ill.

Muyres scored with 2:50 left in the first overtime session to give the Auggies a win in their first NCAA postseason match. Augsburg College (17-4) advances to play the University of Chicago (14-4-1) in a second-round contest on Sunday (Nov. 16) in Chicago.

Hannah Whitington started Augsburg College's winning score by retrieving a UW-Oshkosh clearing attempt. Whitington then passed the ball back to Taylor Kuramoto who popped the ball into the penalty box area from 30 yards out. The ball eluded UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi, and Muyres won a scramble for it and put a shot into the net for her team-leading 15th goal of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (12-8-1) outshot Augsburg College, 6-4, in the first half, but the Auggies owned the only two shots on goal.

Augsburg College controlled the possession for most of the second half and tallied advantages of 12-4 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks. Both teams had two shots saved.

Augsburg College owned all three of the overtime shots. Prior to their goal, the Auggies had shots saved by UW-Oshkosh's Muzi at the 1:55 and 4:53 mark of the period.

UW-Oshkosh's 10 shots included four by Rachel Elliott and two by Nicole Palmquist.

Augsburg College had six of its 19 shots launched by Muyres. The Auggies also obtained five shots from Carter Denison and three from Kuramoto.

Muzi stopped six shots before allowing just her 11th goal of the season. Augsburg College goalkeeper Marissa Guillou saved two shots for her seventh shutout of the season. The Auggies haven't allowed a goal during their last 410:58 of play.

The loss ended UW-Oshkosh's third appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship. The Titans also made NCAA postseason visits in 2006 and 2011.
