Titans Begin NCAA Postseason Journey Against Auggies

UW-Oshkosh makes its third appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship when it faces first-round opponent Augsburg College (Minn.) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 15) at the University of Chicago's (Ill.) Stagg Field.

The Titans (12-7-1) earned an automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Championship with its 1-0 win over UW-Whitewater in the title match of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held last Saturday (Nov. 8). UW-Oshkosh officially received its invitation to the national tournament on Monday (Nov. 10).

UW-Oshkosh, which has never played Augsburg College, advanced to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Championship and made its debut in 2006.

Augsburg College (16-4) earned an automatic bid to the Chicago Regional by winning the championship game of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs by a 1-0 score over Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.). The Auggies won both the MIAC regular season and tournament titles for the first time in program history.

Saturday's other first-round match at the Chicago Regional features University of Chicago (13-4-1) playing Webster University (Mo.) (14-4-3) at 11 a.m.

The University of Chicago, which earned one of 20 at-large bids to the NCAA Championship, is ranked 11th in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Maroons, who are making their second straight NCAA Championship appearance and 14th overall, placed second in the University Athletic Association during the regular season.

Webster University claimed an automatic berth to the Chicago Regional with a 3-1 win over Principia College (Ill.) in the championship game of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament. The Gorloks, who are making their 11th NCAA Championship appearance in the program's 16 seasons, enter the regional on a 10-game winning streak.

The two first-round winners will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 16) for the right to advance to one of four sectional sites on Nov. 21-22 or 22-23. Sectional sites will be determined after regional play has concluded.

Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the semifinals and final on Dec. 5-6 at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.
