Titans End Regular Season With Loss To Pioneers

Anna Sobal scored during the 78th minute of play to give the UW-Platteville women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Nov. 1) in Platteville.

The result, which came in both team's regular-season finale, snapped UW-Oshkosh's three-game winning streak. The outcome also denied the Titans an opportunity to record their first seven-win season in the WIAC since 2001.

UW-Oshkosh, which secured a second-place finish in this year's WIAC race prior to its contest with UW-Platteville, will still be the second seed for next week's WIAC Championship. The Titans (10-7-1, 6-2 WIAC) earned a first-round bye and will host a semifinal round match of the six-team tournament on Nov. 6 at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Sobal gave UW-Platteville (9-10, 2-6 WIAC) its second straight win over UW-Oshkosh with her goal at 77:07 mark of the match. She scored after collecting the rebound of a missed shot taken by teammate Julie Divita.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 22 shots, including five by Rachel and four by Robyn Elliott. The Titans also received three shots from Amanda Baalke and two each from Kali Jahn, Felicia Retrum and Kaitlyn Schauer. Retrum had her final shot of the match hit the post with 1:25 remaining.

UW-Platteville ended the contest with 13 shots. Divita's three shots and the two each from Sobal, Betty Rodriguez and Katie Rogers led the Pioneers.

The Titans had eight shots on goal and the Pioneers six.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi saved one shot before leaving the contest in the 22nd minute due to an injury. Angela Christensen replaced Muzi and stopped four of the five shots she faced.

UW-Platteville goalkeeper Mandy Taylor blocked eight shots, four in each half.

UW-Oshkosh, which suffered its sixth 1-0 loss of the season, earned five of the game's six corner kicks.
