Titans Triumphant In WIAC Debut

Chelsea Kierszh scored UW-Oshkosh's winning goal for the second consecutive match as the Titans opened WIAC play with a 1-0 victory over the UW-Stout women's soccer team on Saturday (Sept. 21) in Menomonie.

Kierszh, who had the decisive score in UW-Oshkosh's 1-0 triumph over Wartburg College (Iowa) on Sept. 15, recorded her winning goal against UW-Stout in the 49th minute (48:39) of play. Kierszh's score came off a pass from Anna Beckerleg.

UW-Oshkosh (3-4-1/1-0 WIAC) dominated most of the day. The Titans posted shot advantages of 9-4 in the first half and 9-1 in the second. UW-Oshkosh, which has gone 14-1-4 in its last 19 matches with UW-Stout, owned four of the game's five corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh's 18 shots featured four by Christina Mauthe, three by Amanda Baalke and two by both Robyn Elliott and Megan White. Kelsie Allen owned three of UW-Stout's five shots.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Katie Berkopec saved three shots, all in the first half, to earn her third consecutive shutout. Paige Meyer stopped nine shots, including seven in the first period, for UW-Stout (2-7, 0-1 WIAC).

With Saturday's win, UW-Oshkosh head coach Erin Coppernoll became the sixth person in WIAC history to achieve 100 coaching victories. She has compiled a 100-68-20 record during her 10 seasons at UW-Oshkosh, including a 15-4-3 mark in 2004. Overall, Coppernoll owns a 14-year record of 124-113-23.

UW-Oshkosh returns to J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Wednesday (Sept. 25) to host three-time defending WIAC champion UW-Whitewater.
