Titans Receive NSCAA Academic Award

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) honored the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team with a Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year.

The Titans were one of 263 women's soccer teams in all NCAA and NAIA divisions to post a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher. UW-Oshkosh registered a team grade point average of 3.11 to earn its first academic award by the NSCAA.

UW-Oshkosh was one of only two squads from the WIAC to be recognized, with the other being UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds earned a 3.30 team grade point average.

UW-Oshkosh finished the 2007 season with a 9-9-1 record, including a 8-3-1 mark over the final 12 matches. The Titans placed fifth in the WIAC standings with a 4-3-1 record.

Drott Repeats As All-WIAC Selection

UW-Oshkosh defender Jenny Drott (Sr. • Mukwonago) has been named to the All-WIAC women's soccer team for the second straight season. She was the lone UW-Oshkosh player voted to a 22-member squad that included six selections from WIAC regular season champion UW-Stevens Point and five from UW-Eau Claire.

Drott started all 19 matches for UW-Oshkosh this past season and anchored a defense that produced four shutouts. Offensively, she scored a pair of goals, including a penalty kick in UW-Oshkosh's 4-1 victory over Lawrence University on Sept. 21. Drott also tallied a goal in the Titans' 3-0 win over UW-Superior on Oct. 4. Her only assist came in UW-Oshkosh's 3-2 loss to The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Sept. 6.

Drott started all 19 matches in 2007 and helped the Titans record six shutouts. She had one goal and one assist on the offensive end.

In 2006, Drott started all 21 matches and helped UW-Oshkosh register seven shutouts. In 2005, Drott started 17 of the 18 contests that she played in and helped the Titans record eight shutouts. Drott scored two goals during the 2005 campaign and one in 2006.

Drott played in 77 matches during her UW-Oshkosh career, including 76 as a starter. She scored six goals and tallied two assists while helping the Titans shutout 25 opponents.

Joining Drott on the All-WIAC team were Liz Kooistra, Allison Muer, Allie Rivard, Allison Smith and Amy Smith of UW-Eau Claire, Amanda Clark, Chelsea Gilbertson and Ramsey Weyenberg of UW-La Crosse, Allie Metcalf and Kim Schneckloth of UW-Platteville, Megan Church of UW-River Falls, Mary Jean Cornelius, Amanda Prawat, Meghan VandenHeuvel, Emily Walsh, Katie Waterman and Kaylee Weise of UW-Stevens Point, Courtney Tideman of UW-Stout and Mary Donohoo and Alyssa Spaude of UW-Whitewater.

Kooistra was named the league's Player of the Year, while Rivard was chosen as the conference's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
UW-Stevens Point's Sheila Miech was named WIAC Coach of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh's Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay) was one of nine players named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.

UW-Oshkosh finished the 2008 season with a 7-10-2 record. The Titans placed seventh in the WIAC with a 2-5-1 record.

Blugolds Oust Titans In WIAC Tournament Opener

Amy Smith scored twice and tallied an assist as UW-Eau Claire defeated UW-Oshkosh, 4-0, in a quarterfinal round match of the WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament held Saturday (Nov. 1) in Eau Claire.

The victory advances second-seed UW-Eau Claire (16-1-3) to a semifinal round contest against third-seed UW-Whitewater (10-8) on Friday (Nov. 7) in Stevens Point. UW-Whitewater qualified for its match with the Blugolds by posting a 2-0 win over sixth-seed UW-River Falls (5-13) on Saturday in Whitewater.

Saturday's other quarterfinal round results had top-seed UW-Stevens Point (15-3) defeat eighth-seed UW-Platteville (9-9-2), 4-0, and fourth-seed UW-La Crosse (9-7-2) edge fifth-seed UW-Stout (6-11-3), 2-1. UW-Stevens Point and UW-La Crosse will meet in the other semifinal round match on Friday in Stevens Point.

The championship game of the WIAC Tournament is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 8) in Stevens Point. The tournament winner receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Rachel Nerison put UW-Eau Claire ahead of seventh-seed UW-Oshkosh
early with a goal just 6:54 into play. The goal, Nerison's 13th of the season, was assisted by Smith.

Smith then scored back-to-back goals at the 16:07 and 84:27 marks of the contest to give the Blugolds a 3-0 lead. Jamie Schiesel was credited with an assist on the first goal and Allison Muer on the second. Smith owns a team-leading 20 goals on the season.

UW-Eau Claire, the three-time defending WIAC Tournament champion, extended its lead to 4-0 on Sam Krueger's unassisted goal with 61 seconds to play. The goal was Krueger's second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (7-10-2) was held to just two shots and one corner kick. Jessica Erny (Fr. • Wauwatosa) and Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay) had the only shots for the Titans.

UW-Eau Claire, which entered the contest ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, counted 16 shots and five corner kicks. Smith led the Blugolds with five shots, including four of which were on goal.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) saved six shots in the contest and UW-Eau Claire goalkeeper Allie Rivard two. The shutout was Rivard's eighth of the season.

Titans To Face UW-Eau Claire In WIAC Tournament Debut

UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire will square off in a quarterfinal round contest of the 2008 WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 1) in Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh was given the seventh seed in the eight-team tournament after finishing seventh in the WIAC's regular season standings with a 2-5-1 record. The Titans enter Saturday's match with a 7-9-2 overall record, including a 4-1 loss to the Blugolds on Oct. 18. Saturday's game is the first WIAC Tournament meeting between the two teams since UW-Eau Claire registered a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh in the championship contest of the 2005 event.

UW-Eau Claire, the three-time defending WIAC Tournament champion, brings a 15-1-3 overall record into Saturday's match. The Blugolds, who earned the tournament's second seed after placing second in the league's regular season standings with a 7-1 record, are ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. UW-Eau Claire's lone loss this season was a 1-0 setback to UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 11.

Three other quarterfinal round contests will be played on Saturday as eighth-seed UW-Platteville(9-8-2) travels to top-seed UW-Stevens Point (14-3), sixth-seed UW-River Falls (5-12) treks to third-seed UW-Whitewater (9-8) and fifth-seed UW-Stout (6-10-3) voyages to fourth-seed UW-La Crosse (8-7-2).

The WIAC Tournament will be re-seeded following the quarterfinal round matches. The semifinal and championship round matches will be held next Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7-8) at the site of the highest remaining seed. The tournament winner receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Titans Fall To Pioneers In Home Finale

Carroll University bounced back from an early deficit to slip past UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in a women's soccer match held Monday (Oct. 27) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (7-9-2) jumped to a 1-0 lead when Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay) scored her second goal of the season just 12:43 into play. Credited with an assist on Matzke's goal was Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha).

It took just two minutes for Carroll University (11-5-1) to create a tie as Liana Foreman scored off a corner kick from Kylie Ringelstetter at the 14:51 mark of the match. The goal was Foreman's second of the season.

Carroll University moved ahead 2-1 on a goal by Cody Callender at the 35:21 mark of the contest. Callender's team-leading 15th goal of the season came off a pass from Alyssa Low.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 12 shots and one corner kick. Matzke launched four shots, Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro) three and Landi two to lead the Titans.

Carroll University, which won its fifth straight match, compiled 16 shots and seven corner kicks. The Pioneers were led by the five shots of both Callender and Kendell Uttech.

Goalkeepers Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) of UW-Oshkosh and Ashlee Reinke of Carroll University both made six saves in the match.

UW-Oshkosh plays at UW-Eau Claire (15-1-3) in the quarterfinal round of the WIAC Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 1).

Late Score Lifts Eagles Past Titans

Erin Wilson scored the second of her two goals with less than seven minutes to play to give the UW-La Crosse women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Oct. 25) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-La Crosse (8-7-2/4-3-1 WIAC) clinched the fourth seed for WIAC Tournament with the victory and will host fifth-seeded UW-Stout (6-9-3/3-3-2 WIAC) in a quarterfinal round match on Saturday (Nov. 1). UW-Oshkosh (7-8-2/2-5-1) is seeded seventh in the tournament and will play a quarterfinal round contest at second-seeded UW-Eau Claire (15-1-2/7-1) on Saturday.

Wilson gave UW-La Crosse a 1-0 lead when she scored an assisted goal by Chelsea Gilbertson and Ramsey Weyenberg at the 21:21 mark of the match.

UW-La Crosse held its 1-0 advantage until UW-Oshkosh's Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha) scored an unassisted goal with 10:10 left in the contest. The goal was Landi's first of her career.

The 1-1 deadlock lasted less than four minutes as Wilson scored UW-La Crosse's match-winning goal with 6:46 left to play. Wilson's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Sarah Joost.

UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-La Crosse, 17-12. Landi attempted five shots and Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) three to lead the Titans, while Wilson attempted three shots and Weyenberg and Sarah Harrington two each to pace the Eagles. Both teams were credited with seven corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) saved seven shots in the match and UW-La Crosse goalkeeper Sagen Pizzingrilli nine. Pizzingrilli made six of her saves in the first half, while Walder recorded six of her saves in the second.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Carroll University on Monday (Oct. 27) in its final home match of the 2008 season.

Titans End Four-Match Losing Skid

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team ended a four-match losing streak and started its final homestand of the 2008 season with a 2-1 victory over Clarke College (Iowa) on Tuesday (Oct. 21) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh's Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay) broke a scoreless debate when she rebounded a missed shot from Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) and sailed the ball into the net at the 73:21 mark of the match. The goal, which awards Rickard with an assist, was Matzke's first of the season.

Clarke College (6-10-1) had a golden opportunity to tie the score at 1-1 with 12:10 left in the contest, but Melissa Guthrie's shot hit the goal's left upright and bounced back into play.

UW-Oshkosh (7-7-2) took advantage of Guthrie's missed shot by extending its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Rickard with 4:18 left in the game. Rickard's second goal of the season came off a pass from Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha).

Clarke College, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, cut its deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Guthrie with 4:01 to go. Guthrie's sixth goal of the year was assisted by Takara Harden.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 24 shots, including 17 in the second half. Landi had eight shots and Rickard four to lead the Titans. UW-Oshkosh attempted eight corner kicks, including seven in the second period.

Clarke College was credited with nine shots and two corner kicks. Guthrie, Harden and Katlyn Laughlin led the Crusaders with two shots each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) made two saves in the contest and Clarke College goalkeeper Katie Schmidt eight.

UW-Oshkosh, which suffered losses to The College of St. Benedict (Minn.), UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire in its previous four matches, finishes its homestand with games against UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 25) and Carroll University on Monday (Oct. 27).

Nationally Ranked Blugolds Drop Titans

Rachel Nerison scored a goal in each half to lead the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Oct. 18) in Eau Claire.

Nerison gave UW-Eau Claire (14-1-2/6-1 WIAC) leads of 2-0 and 4-1 when she tallied goals at the 6:34 and 75:40 marks of the match, respectively. Nerison's first goal was unassisted while her second came off a pass from Jessica Millard. It was the 10th and 11th goals of the season for Nerison.

UW-Eau Claire, ranked 22nd in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, started the scoring with a goal by Amy Smith just 5:13 into the contest. Smith's 17th goal of the season was assisted by Liz Kooistra.

UW-Oshkosh (6-7-2/2-4-1 WIAC) trailed 2-0 before Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) scored an unassisted goal at the 28:27 mark of the match. The goal was Rickard's first of the season.

UW-Eau Claire answered Rickard's score with a goal by Kooistra at the 30:08 mark of the game. Smith was credited with an assist on Kooistra's eighth goal of the year.

UW-Eau Claire, which is 5-0-1 in its last six matches against UW-Oshkosh, counted 16 shots and four corner kicks. Kooistra, Nerison and Smith attempted four shots each to lead the Blugolds.

UW-Oshkosh managed just three shots, attempts by Rickard, Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha) and Melissa Michalkiewicz (Fr. • Menasha). The Titans didn't attempt a corner kick.

Nationally Ranked Pointers Flee From Titans

The UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer team scored seven second-half goals, including four by Amanda Prawat, en route to a 9-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Oct. 15) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Stevens Point (12-2/6-0 WIAC), ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, took a 2-0 halftime lead on a pair of goals by Emily Walsh. Walsh gave UW-Stevens Point the early advantage when she scored off passes from Prawat and Kaylee Weise just 13:13 into play. Walsh then doubled the Pointers’ lead when she scored off a serve from Lauryn Semling at the 39:18 mark of the match.

The second half was all UW-Stevens Point as the Pointers scored on seven of their 15 shots. Prawat opened the half with three straight goals and added another goal later in the period to give UW-Stevens Point a 7-0 lead. Prawat scored on assisted goals by Weise at the 48:01 and 51:42 marks of the contest, Vicki Bieschke at 51:01 and Jennisa Koch at 69:37.

UW-Stevens Point also obtained second-half goals from Bieschke, Weise and Jackie Spees. Bieschke scored an unassisted goal at the 57:14 mark of the contest to give the Pointers a 6-0 lead. Weise put UW-Stevens Point in front 8-0 when she took a pass from Koch and scored at the 69:37 mark. Spees scored the Pointers’ ninth goal of the game off a pass from Weise at the 75:40 mark.

UW-Oshkosh (6-6-2/2-3-1 WIAC), which suffered its worst defeat in school history (295 matches), was limited to just six shots and four corner kicks. Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha), Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay), Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg), Katy Werginz (Sr. • Waupaca), Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro) and Madeline Winn (Fr. • Wauwatosa) tallied one shot each for the Titans.

UW-Stevens Point launched 24 shots and five corner kicks. Prawat attempted eight shots and Weise six to lead the Pointers. The two players now own a WIAC-leading 19 goals on the season.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) saved six shots in the contest and UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Pam Luckow three. The shutout was Luckow’s seventh of the season.

Falcons Fly Away From Titans

UW-River Falls snapped its seven-game WIAC losing streak by defeating UW-Oshkosh, 3-0, in a women's soccer match held Saturday (Oct. 11) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Megan Rasmussen tallied her first two goals of the season and Eryn Lansverk her team-leading sixth to lead the Falcons (3-9/1-4 WIAC) to the victory.

Rasmussen gave UW-River Falls a 1-0 lead when she scored on an assisted goal by Erin Genin and Lansverk at the 15:38 mark of the match. Genin made a strong throw-in and Lansverk flicked it over to Rasmussen, who headed it home for the goal.

UW-River Falls held its one-goal advantage until Rasmussen scored off a scramble in front of the UW-Oshkosh net at the 73:37 mark of the contest. Genin recorded her second assist of the game on the play.

The Falcons sealed their victory when Lansverk scored off a pass from Jessi Larson at the 82:12 mark of the match.

UW-Oshkosh (6-5-2/2-2-1 WIAC) had an opportunity to tie the score at 1-1, but Erin Rickard's (Jr. • Cedarburg) shot hit the horizontal beam on top of the goal at the 67:45 mark of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh lost the match despite posting advantages of 19-11 in shots and 11-4 in corner kicks. Rickard paced the Titans with four shots, while Steffanie Nagan (So. • Kaukauna), Jennifer Nesbitt (So. • Sturgeon Bay), and Nikki Reed (Fr. • Muskego) tallied three each.

UW-River Falls was led by the five shots of Lansverk and the two of both Rasmussen and Amy Piersak.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) made four saves, while UW-River Falls goalkeeper Emily Stieler had six. The Falcons also had a defender record a save.

Blazers Slip Past Titans

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team managed just two shots as it dropped a 1-0 decision to The College of St. Benedict on Sunday (Oct. 5) in St. Joseph, Minn.

Heather Beshears led the Blazers (7-4) to the victory by taking a pass from Allison Tourville and scoring at the 16:38 mark of the contest. The goal was Beshears' second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh's only shots in the match were taken by Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) and Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro). Both attempts were saved by The College of St. Benedict goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer.

The College of St. Benedict, which improved its all-time record against UW-Oshkosh to 7-1-1, attempted seven shots. Beshears and Leah Schleppergrell each launched two shots to pace the Blazers.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) saved six shots in the contest, three in each half.

The contest featured 17 corner kicks, including 11 by The College of St. Benedict.

UW-Oshkosh's one-goal loss was its fourth of the season. The Titans (6-4-2) also lost a 1-0 decision to Concordia College (Minn.) on Sept. 7.

Titans Exterminate Yellowjackets

UW-Oshkosh scored all of its goals in the first half as it defeated UW-Superior, 3-0, in a women's soccer match held Saturday (Oct. 4) in Superior.

UW-Oshkosh, which remained unbeaten in 16 matches against UW-Superior, took a 1-0 lead courtesy of an own goal at the 17:05 mark of contest.

The Titans extended their advantage to 2-0 on a goal by Jenny Drott (Sr. • Mukwonago) at the 20:10 mark of thee match. The goal was Drott's second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh finished its scoring on goal by Melissa Michalkiewicz (Fr. • Menasha) at the 38:42 mark of the game. Michalkiewicz's first collegiate goal was assisted by Carmen Fiordellisi (Fr. • Howard) and Alaina Landi (
Fr. • Waukesha).

UW-Oshkosh (6-3-2/2-1-1 WIAC) bombarded UW-Superior (2-10-1/0-4 WIAC) with 26 shots and eight corner kicks. The Titans attempted 14 of their shots in the first half and five of their corner kicks in the second. Nikki Reed (Fr.• Muskego) led UW-Oshkosh with five shots.

UW-Superior was held to just one shot, an attempt by Heather Collander in the first half. The Yellowjackets, who have lost five straight matches, were unable to acquire a corner kick.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeepers Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) and Danielle Sobralski (Fr. • Oshkosh) went without having to make a save in the match. Neve played the first half for the Titans and Sobralski the second.

UW-Superior goalkeeper Anna Olsen made 14 saves, including nine in the second half.

Saturday's victory over UW-Superior also allowed Erin Coppernoll to become the winningest head women's soccer coach in UW-Oshkosh history. Coppernoll has compiled a 55-29-9 record since becoming the Titans' fifth head women's soccer coach in 2004. She surpassed the 54 victories that Scott Haywood recorded as UW-Oshkosh's head coach from 1999-2003.

Warhawks Nip Titans

All of the contest's scoring took place in the first half as the UW-Whitewater women's soccer team registered a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Oct. 1) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh, which
entered the match unbeaten in its previous five contests (4-0-1 record), grabbed a 1-0 lead on Jennifer Nesbitt's (So. • Sturgeon Bay) assisted goal by Nicole Simon (Fr. • Racine) in the 13th minute (12:28) of play. The goal was Nesbitt's second of the season.

UW-Whitewater tied the score on an unassisted goal by Stacey Schultz at the 28:49 mark of the match. The Warhawks went ahead 2-1 on Sara Brown's assisted goal by Becky Cera
at the 36:21 mark of the game.

UW-Whitewater (5-5/2-2 WIAC) posted advantages of 9-6 in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks over UW-Oshkosh (5-3-2/1-1-1 WIAC). Schultz and Mary Donohoo paced the Warhawks with two shots each, while Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro) had three shots and Nesbitt two to lead the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) made two saves in the match and UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Mary Scanlin four.

After seven straight losses to UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater has now won its last two matches with the Titans. The teams have played each other 18 times, with UW-Oshkosh owning an 11-5-2 advantage in the all-time series.

Titans, Blue Devils Play To Stalemate

The differences between the UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stout women's soccer teams went unresolved as they battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Saturday (Sept. 27) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Katie Ness gave UW-Stout (4-4-2/2-1-1 WIAC) a 1-0 lead when she took a pass from Ali Sonsteby and scored at the 17:31 mark of the match.

UW-Oshkosh (5-2-2/1-0-1 WIAC) came back to tie the score on a goal by Carmen Fordellisi (Fr. • Howard) at the 34:13 mark of the contest.
Fiordellisi's goal, assisted by Madeline Winn (Fr. • Wauwatosa), was her team-leading fifth of the season and the first allowed by UW-Stout in nearly 306 minutes.

Goalkeepers Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) of UW-Oshkosh and Jessica Halverson of UW-Stout preserved the tie
by totaling nine saves over the final 75:47 of play. Walder finished the 110-minute match with seven saves, including five in the first half. Halverson tallied 10 saves, including three in the second overtime period when UW-Oshkosh attempted four shots.

UW-Oshkosh, which had its four-match winning streak halted, compiled 23 shots and three corner kicks. Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) had five shots and Fiordellisi four to lead the Titans.

UW-Stout launched 15 shots, including four by Ness, and one corner kick. The Blue Devils had their three-match winning streak snapped with the tie.

UW-Oshkosh owns a 12-2-5 advantage in the all-time series with UW-Stout. The Titans haven't lost to the Blue Devils since a 3-1 setback in 1999.

Titans To Wear Pink

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team will wear pink jerseys on Saturday (Sept. 27) in honor of Dr. Joan Casey, the late mother of Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha).

This season, the Titans have decided to raise money for the Dr. Joan Casey Memorial Endowment for Breast Cancer Research at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The players have been getting pledges based on how many goals the team scores this year. The money will be used for breast cancer research initiatives at the Regional Cancer Center. This is a great way to raise money for a good cause. Breast cancer affects the lives of many women.

Titans Rally Past Falcons

Jennifer Nesbitt (So. • Sturgeon Bay) and Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) scored goals within six minutes of each other late in the second half to propel the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Thursday (Sept. 25) in Mequon.

Concordia University Wisconsin (4-4) held a 2-1 lead before Nesbitt tied the score on an assisted goal by Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) with 12:57 remaining in the contest. The goal was Nesbitt's first of the season and the first scored against Concordia University of Wisconsin in nearly 289 minutes.

Casey then broke the tie by putting a shot off a pass from Rickard
into the net with 7:43 left in the match. It was Casey's fourth goal of the season, including her second game winner.

UW-Oshkosh (5-2-1) opened the scoring
on Carmen Fiordellisi's (Fr. • Howard) goal 9:11 into play. Fiordellisi's goal, her fourth of the season, was assisted by Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro).

It took just 48 seconds for Concordia University Wisconsin to tie the score as Becky Ott put a shot into the net. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead on Kayla Racklyeft's goal at the 50:15 mark of the match. Racklyeft's goal was assisted by Emily Waldorf.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 14 shots and three corner kicks. Fiordellisi led the Titans with four shots, while Casey and Williams added three each.

Concordia University of Wisconsin, which is winless in eight matches against UW-Oshkosh, totaled 10 shots and two corner kicks. Waldorf had three shots to lead the Falcons.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) made four saves in the match and Concordia University Wisconsin goalkeeper Mary Ryan six. Neve's performance helped the Titans win their fourth straight contest and snap the Falcons' three-game winning streak.

Titans Slam Door On Vikings

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team scored twice in the final four minutes of play to pull away and defeat Lawrence University, 4-1, on Sunday (Sept. 21) in Appleton.

UW-Oshkosh (4-2-1) owned a 2-1 lead before Jenny Drott (Sr. • Mukwonago) sailed a penalty kick into the goal with 3:28 left in the contest. The Titans extended their advantage to 4-1 when Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) scored an unassisted goal with 1:43 remaining. It was the
first goal of the season for Drott and the third for Casey.

Carmen Fiordellisi (Fr. • Howard) gave UW-Oshkosh a quick 1-0 lead when she took passes from Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) and Jennifer Nesbitt (So.• Sturgeon Bay) and scored just 118 seconds into the match. The Titans held their one-goal lead until Fiordellisi scored off a pass from Nikki Reed (Fr. • Muskego) at the 72:05 mark of the contest. It was the second and third goals of the season for Fiordellisi.

Lawrence University (2-5) cut its deficit to 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Elizabeth Seeley at the 85:35 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh, which posted its eighth straight win over Lawrence University, attempted 27 shots. Casey led the Titans with six shots, while Fiordellisi and Rickard tallied three each.

Lawrence University attempted 10 shots, including three by both Seeley and Sarah Ehlinger.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Danielle Sobralski (Fr. • Oshkosh) saved seven shots to earn the victory in her collegiate debut. Lawrence University goalkeeper Lindsey Ahlen allowed all four goals and saved 15 shots, including 10 in the first half.

Titans Shut Out Green Knights

Jessica Erny (Fr. • Wauwatosa) scored an early goal as UW-Oshkosh nipped St. Norbert College, 1-0, in a women's soccer match held Wednesday (Sept. 17) in De Pere.

Erny provided the Titans' margin of victory when she took a pass from Erin Rickard (Jr. • Waukesha) and scored just 7:49 into play. Rickard passed to Erny's location on the field, and Erny beat St. Norbert College goalkeeper Mallory Ford to the ball and drilled it into an empty net. The goal was Erny's team-leading fourth of the season.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) made four saves to record her second straight shutout and sixth of her career. Neve had three saves in the Titans' 2-0 win over UW-Platteville on Saturday (Sept. 13).

UW-Oshkosh (3-2-1) attempted 16 shots, including 11 in the second half, and six corner kicks. Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha) launched five shots and Rickard three to lead the Titans.

St. Norbert College (4-4-1), which suffered its sixth straight loss to UW-Oshkosh, attempted 14 shots and four corner kicks. Stephanie Gatyas fired seven shots and Jenni Jacobson and Kate Kaminski two each for the Green Knights.

Ford made seven saves for St. Norbert College, which suffered its sixth straight loss to UW-Oshkosh. The Titans lead the all-time series with the Green Knights by a 9-3-1 tally.

Titans Conquer Pioneers In WIAC Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team remained unbeaten against UW-Platteville as it opened WIAC play with a 2-0 victory over the Pioneers on Saturday (Sept. 13) in Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh (2-2-1/1-0 WIAC) scored once in each half, including on an own goal just 8:01 into the contest. The Titans took their early advantage when a UW-Platteville defender headed a corner kick from Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro) into its own goal.

UW-Oshkosh increased its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Jessica Erny (Fr. • Wauwatosa) at the 55:12 mark of the match. Erny's team-leading third goal of the season was set up by Erin Rickard's (Jr. • Waukesha) steal of the ball around the 35-yard line. Rickard then passed the ball to Erny for the break-away goal.

The Titans attempted 16 shots, including five by Williams and three by Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha). UW-Oshkosh had six corner kicks, with five of them coming in the first half.

UW-Platteville (3-1/0-1 WIAC) launched 11 shots and four corner kicks. Kim Schneckloth had four shots for the Pioneers and Amberlynn Gonzales, Allie Metcalfe and Tara Porter two each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) recorded her fifth career shutout by stopping three shots. UW-Platteville goalkeeper Hannah Krier tallied six saves.

UW-Oshkosh has won all 16 of its matches with UW-Platteville, including the last 13 by a shutout. The Titans have scored the last 33 goals in the series.

Cobbers Edge Titans On Direct Kick

Abby Habein's goal on a direct kick in the 70th minute of play gave the Concordia College (Minn.) women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Sunday (Sept. 6) in Moorhead, Minn.

Concordia College, which won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title a year ago, controlled play for nearly the entire match. The Cobbers (3-0-1) finally broke the scoreless contest when Sam Johnson was fouled just outside the UW-Oshkosh penalty box. Habein then sailed her 25-yard direct kick into the far side of the net past the UW-Oshkosh wall and goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha), who was screened on the play.

UW-Oshkosh (1-2-1) came up with just one shot on goal the rest of the way and that was stopped by Concordia College goalkeeper Britt Reiersgord.

Concordia College totaled 15 shots and six corner kicks. Sam Johnson led the Cobbers with four shots while Maia Johnson added three.

UW-Oshkosh was held to just five shots and one corner kick by its first-time opponent. Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) had two shots to lead the Titans while Chloe Kierszh (Fr. • Oshkosh), Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha) and Jennifer Nesbitt (So. • Sturgeon Bay) tallied one each.

Both goalkeepers went the distance as UW-Oshkosh's Walder stopped three shots and Concordia College's Reiersgord one.

Overtime Penalty Kick Lifts Saints Past Titans

Courtney McKenzie scored on a penalty kick with 1:10 remaining in the second overtime period to lift The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Sept. 6) in Moorhead, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh (1-1-1), playing its third straight overtime contest, struck first when Jessica Erny (Fr. • Wauwatosa) took a pass from Jenny Drott (Sr. • Mukwonago) and scored at the 20:27 mark of the match.

UW-Oshkosh held its lead until The College of St. Scholastica's Robin Johnson got a pass from Sara Olson and scored at the 47:37 mark of the game.

The Titans regained the advantage over their second-time opponent when Carmen Fiordellisi (Fr. • Howard) took a cross from Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) and sailed a shot into the net at the 49:16 mark of the match.

The College of St. Scholastica (3-0) tied the score at 2-2 when Angie Groh emerged from a scramble after a corner kick from Nicole Brandt and scored at the 67:49 mark of the contest.

In the first overtime period, UW-Oshkosh fired two shots and The College of St. Scholastica one. The Saints dominated the second overtime session by posting a 6-0 advantage in shots. A tripping foul on UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) helped set up the Saints' winning goal and their 16th consecutive regular season victory.

Both teams launched 20 shots in the contest, with Johnson totaling four for the Saints and Erny 10 for the Titans. The College of St. Scholastica had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Neve stopped 10 shots for UW-Oshkosh, while goalkeeper Bailey Nahlum blocked seven shots for The College of St. Scholastica.

The contest marked the second meeting between the two teams, with UW-Oshkosh winning by a 4-0 count in 2003.

UW-Oshkosh Wins Battle Of The Titans

With their nickname the same, it was the UW-Oshkosh Titans that prevailed with a 1-0 women's soccer overtime victory over the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans on Wednesday (Sept. 3) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh's Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) tallied the winning goal by sending her lone shot of the contest into the net at the 95:31 mark of the match. Casey's goal, which came on an assist by Steffanie Nagan (So. • Kaukauna), was the first allowed by Illinois Wesleyan University (2-1) in three matches.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0-1) had an opportunity to take a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute of play, but a goal was wiped out due to an offside call.

Illinois Wesleyan University dominated the flow of play, posting advantages of 22-10 in shots and 8-1 in corner kicks. Alyssa Feulner, Erin Kugler, Caroline Leighton and Elizabeth Sinclair all took four shots for Illinois Wesleyan University, while Carmen Fiordellisi (Fr. • Howard) took three shots and Erin Rickard (Jr. • Cedarburg) two for UW-Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Fr. • Waukesha) totaled eight saves in her collegiate debut. Ali Novak had seven saves for Illinois Wesleyan University.

It was the second meeting between the two teams, with UW-Oshkosh winning by a 2-1 score in 2003.

Titans' Season Opener Results In Tie

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team opened its 2008 season by playing to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Maryville University (Mo.) on Friday (Aug. 29) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh players had a foot in three of the contest's four goals, including an own goal that helped Maryville University tie the score at 2-2 with 4:27 left in regulation. The unusual goal came five minutes after Caitlin Casey (So. • Waukesha) put the Titans ahead 2-1 with an unassisted goal.

Neither team scored in overtime as UW-Oshkosh (0-0-1) posted a 5-0 advantage in shots. The Titans had three of their shots saved, including two in the second extra period.

Maryville University (0-0-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead when Sarah Griggs took a pass from Megan McCabe and scored 17:59 into the match. The Saints held their advantage until the Titans' Jessica Erny (Fr. • Wauwatosa) scored on an assisted goal by Bailey Williams (Jr. • Omro) at the 64:07 mark.

UW-Oshkosh launched 30 shots against its first-time opponent, including 17 in the second half. Casey, Alaina Landi (Fr. • Waukesha) and Amanda Matzke (Sr. • Green Bay) paced the Titans with five shots each.

Maryville University, which compiled a 13-7-1 record a year ago, attempted eight shots. Griggs had a team-leading four shots for the Saints.

UW-Oshkosh's Laura Neve (So. • Waukesha) and Maryville University's Julie McChesney played all 110 minutes at goalkeeper. McChesney counted 14 saves in the match and Neve three. The Saints also had a defender record a save.

Titans' Alumni Game Set For August 23

The 2008 UW-Oshkosh Women's Soccer Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, August 23 at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The contest begins at 2 p.m.

The facility opens for warm-ups at 1 p.m. After the game, UW-Oshkosh alumni and friends will have an opportunity to tour J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium and see the latest additions to the venue, including the new women's soccer locker room.

"The alumni game is a great opportunity for our current players to meet and greet some of the past athletes who have played before them," said UW-Oshkosh head coach Erin Coppernoll. "It is great to see where life has taken all of the alumni. I look forward to visiting with all of our alumni each year."
