Leinweber Named New Head Women's Soccer Coach

UW-Oshkosh Director of Athletics Allen Ackerman announced Monday (June 21) that Oshkosh native Erin Leinweber has been hired as the Titans' new head women's soccer coach. The Oshkosh West High School graduate becomes the fifth mentor in the program's 12-year history, taking over for interim head coach Erin O'Driscoll.

Leinweber, 28, has spent the last three seasons as head women's soccer coach and director of intramurals at North Park University in Chicago, Ill. She also was the head women's soccer coach at Ripon College in 1999.

“I'm extremely excited about this opportunity to return to my hometown and coach women's soccer at UW-Oshkosh,” said Leinweber. “There has been a lot of success in the UW-Oshkosh athletics program and I look forward to being a part of that great environment.”

Leinweber earned four varsity letters in girls' soccer at Oshkosh West High School from 1990 to 1993. In 1991, she helped the Wildcats to their first and only appearance in the WIAA Division I State Tournament. Leinweber scored a school-record 62 goals during her prep career, including 17 in 1993 when she received all-state honors and played in the state's all-star game.

Leinweber followed a stellar high school career by accepting a scholarship to play college soccer at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay. She appeared in 16 matches for UW-Green Bay in 1993, scoring two goals and helping the Phoenix to a 13-4-2 record.

Leinweber left UW-Green Bay after one season and transferred to UW-Stevens Point, where she played for the Pointers from 1994 to 1996. At UW-Stevens Point, Leinweber helped the Pointers to a 45-16-3 record (21-0-2 WIAC), two NCAA Division III post-season appearances and two WIAC championships. She concluded her UW-Stevens Point career by totaling 78 points on 28 goals and 22 assists.

Leinweber had nine goals and six assists in 1994 when UW-Stevens Point posted a 17-3-2 record, won the WIAC title and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship. In 1995, She received All-WIAC second team honors after compiling nine goals and 10 assists and helping the Pointers to a 17-3 record. UW-Stevens Point's 1995 season also featured another WIAC title and a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. In 1996, Leinweber received All-WIAC first team honors after totaling 10 goals and six assists and helping the Pointers to an 11-10-1 record.

North Park University compiled a 22-31-3 record during Leinweber's three seasons as head women's soccer coach. Last fall, the Vikings played the most competitive schedule in the program's history and posted a 7-10-2 record. In 2002, North Park University started six freshmen and tallied a 10-9 record, with the 10 victories tying a school single-season record. In 2001, Leinweber took a North Park University squad that went 4-12 the previous year to a 5-12-1 record.

Leinweber also was the head women's soccer coach at Ripon College. In 1999, her only season at the school, Leinweber guided the Red Hawks to a 2-14 record. She took over a program that counted a 3-12-1 record and involved only 13 players in 1998.

In 2000, Leinweber coached at UW-Whitewater, serving as an assistant to head women's coach and former UW-Oshkosh men's soccer All-American Greg Henschel. The Warhawks posted a 13-5-2 record that season and finished second in the WIAC.

“I consider myself a proud product of the WIAC,” said Leinweber. “I enjoyed playing in the league for UW-Stevens Point and now the thrill continues for me as UW-Oshkosh's new head coach. What I hope to do is to bring some of the same successful experiences that I had as a player to those who play for me.”

Leinweber's resume also includes the mention of head freshman girls' coach at Oshkosh West High School in 1999 and 2000, assistant boys' varsity coach at Appleton East High School in 1998, assistant boys' varsity coach at Stevens Point High School in 1997 and assistant girls' varsity coach at Stevens Point High School in 1995, 1996 and 1997.

Since 1995, Leinweber has enhanced her coaching credentials by working soccer camps at Marquette University North Park University, Northwestern University (Ill.), University of Florida, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point.

Leinweber, who holds a United States Soccer Federation “C” license, received her bachelor's degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1998 and master's degree from North Park University in 2003. In addition to coaching women's soccer at UW-Oshkosh, Leinweber will also be the manager of the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

“Erin brings a great deal of enthusiasm, knowledge and passion to our women's soccer program,” said Ackerman. “In addition, her experience as a player and coach in the WIAC will be invaluable. I look forward to working with Erin as a member of our coaching staff.”

UW-Oshkosh concluded the 2003 season with a 14-5-2 record, with the 14 victories representing the second-highest win total in school history. UW-Oshkosh had a season-best five-match winning streak end with its loss to UW-River Falls in the semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament.

UW-Oshkosh scored 54 goals during the 2003 season, including 11 by Nicole Kunick, eight by Karin Reinke and five by both Michelle John and Stacy Stroud. All four players are expected to return for Leinweber this fall. UW-Oshkosh allowed just 11 goals in 2003, shutting out 12 of its 21 opponents.

UW-Oshkosh also recorded season marks of 10-10-1 in 2002, 13-3-1 in 2001 and 15-4 in 2000.

Rau, Reinke Receive NCAA All-Central Region Honors

Seven WIAC women's soccer players have been named to the 2003 NCAA Division III All-Central Region women's soccer team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

UW-Whitewater's Christin Acklam and Staci Gustafson earned first team honors, while UW-Oshkosh's Lindsay Rau (Sr. • Janesville) and UW-Stevens Point's Jenny Bruce were second team picks. UW-Eau Claire's Maleia Damato, UW-La Crosse's Amanda Pickett and UW-Oshkosh's Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay) were third team selections.

Acklam, a senior midfielder, started all 16 matches for the Warhawks and helped the squad to a school record 12-match unbeaten streak (11-0-1) this year. She led the team with 20 points and eight assists, while adding six goals.

Gustafson, a senior defender from Mukwonago, Wis., started all 16 matches this season and recorded four goals with four assists for 12 points.

Bruce, a senior forward, was an all-region pick for the third straight year after capturing first team honors the past two seasons. She recorded a league-leading 48 points on 16 goals and 16 assists this year. Bruce is the conference's all-time leader in assists and ranks 11th in NCAA Division III history with 53 for her career. She also ranks third on the league's all-time chart with 161 career points.

Rau, a defender, earned all-region second team honors for the third straight season after helping UW-Oshkosh post a school record 12 shutouts and a league-best 0.50 goals against average.

Damato, a senior midfielder, was an all-region first team selection a year ago. This season, she started 18 matches and scored four goals for eight points.

Pickett, a senior defender, spearheaded a UW-La Crosse defense that posted seven shutouts and a 1.17 goals against average. The Eagles also put together a school record eight-match unbeaten streak (7-0-1) in 2003.

Reinke, a midfielder, started all 21 matches for UW-Oshkosh this year and ranked second on the team with 20 points and eight goals. She also added four assists.

Rau, Reinke & Tomjanovich Named To All-WIAC First Team

UW-River Falls' Sarah Carlson and UW-Stevens Point's Kelly Fink were named the 2003 Co-Players of the Year, headlining the 22-member All-WIAC women's soccer team.

Carlson, a sophomore forward, led the Falcons to the first WIAC women's soccer title in school history this season, snapping UW-Stevens Point's six-year string of league championships. She ranked second in the conference with 16 goals, while placing third with 38 points and ninth with six assists. Carlson's 16 goals were the fifth-highest single-season total in school history, while her 38 points were sixth.

Fink, a senior forward, earned all-conference honors for the third straight season after helping the Pointers to the WIAC Tournament title for the 11th time in the 12-year history of the event and a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament. She led the league with 48 points and 21 goals and added six assists. Fink's 156 career points rank third on the conference's all-time list, while her 67 career goals position her fourth on the chart.

Jenny Bruce, Megan Frey and Tara Schmitt joined Fink on the All-WIAC squad. Bruce becomes the fifth player in conference history to capture all-league honors in four consecutive seasons. She led the league with 48 points and ranked second with 16 goals and 16 assists. Bruce established the conference's all-time assist mark with 53 career assists.

Frey finished the season with 16 points on eight assists and four goals, while Schmitt helped the Pointers register a league-high 12 shutouts. It was the third straight league honor for Schmitt.

Carlson was joined on the All-WIAC squad by Falcon teammates Apryl Jennrich and Ashley Peterson. Jennrich earned league accolades for the second straight season after registering 136 saves and a 0.84 goals against average in 1,817 minutes in goal. Her 0.84 goals against average was the second-best mark in UW-River Falls history. Peterson ranked second on the team with 20 points, seven goals and six assists.

UW-Oshkosh's Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay), Sara Tomanjovich (Jr. • Sevastopol) and Lindsay Rau (Sr. • Janesville) earned All-WIAC honors following a 14-5-2 season for the Titans. Reinke accumulated eight goals and four assists for 20 points this year.

Tomjanovich and Rau helped the Titans post a school record 12 shutouts and a league-best 0.50 goals against average. Tomjanovich registered a 0.48 goals against average with 64 saves in 1,496 minutes in goal. Her goals against average mark established a school record and was the third-best mark in league history. Rau earned her third straight all-league honor, becoming the third player in school history to accomplish the feat.

UW-Eau Claire landed four players on the all-league team as Marcia Foltz, Maleia Damato, Kiley Zellner and Erin Ziech were recognized for their efforts.

Foltz ranked fifth in the conference with 12 goals, while placing sixth with 28 points. She also added four assists on the season.

Damato and Zellner earned all-league honors for the second straight season. Damato registered four goals and eight points, while Zellner accumulated eight goals, one assist and 17 points. Ziech contributed to a Blugold defense that compiled five shutouts this year.

Shannon Hermes, Carrie Schrank and Diane Ehlen helped UW-Stout to a school record 12 wins this season. Hermes ranked fourth in the league with 33 points and 14 goals, while adding five assists during the 2003 campaign.

Schrank led the conference with 19 assists and placed fifth with 29 points. Her 19 assists are the second-highest single-season total in WIAC history. Schrank is the school's all-time assists leader with 29 assists over the last three seasons.

Ehlen helped the Blue Devil defense rank second in the league with 12 goals allowed, a 0.63 goals against average and 10 shutouts.

UW-Whitewater's Christin Acklam, Dani Daggett and Staci Gustafson earned All-WIAC accolades after helping the Warhawks to their fourth straight season of 10 or more wins (11-3-2), including a school record 12-match unbeaten streak (11-0-1). Acklam ranked ninth in the league with six assists and added six goals for 18 points.

Daggett earned her second consecutive All-WIAC honor after placing eighth in the conference with nine goals and adding two assists for a team-leading 20 points.

Gustafson also earned her league accolade following a season that saw her help the Warhawk defense register seven shutouts and a 1.03 goals against average.

UW-La Crosse's Amanda Pickett earned her third straight All-WIAC honor after spearheading an Eagle defense that posted seven shutouts and a 1.17 goals against average. The Eagles also put together a school record eight-match unbeaten streak (7-0-1) this season.

UW-Platteville's Jessi Jones became the second player in school history to earn three straight all-league honors. She led the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points.

UW-River Falls head coach Sean McKuras was selected the league's Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Titans Qualify For WIAC Tournament

UW-Oshkosh will be the fourth seed for the four-team WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament on November 7-8 in River Falls. The Titans gained entry to the tournament after UW-La Crosse defeated UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point tied UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Oct. 29).

UW-Oshkosh (14-4-2) opens WIAC post-season action by playing top-seed UW-River Falls (15-3) on November 7 at 11 a.m. That match will be followed by a 2 p.m. contest between second-seed UW-Stevens Point (11-3-3) and third-seed UW-La Crosse (9-4-1). The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on November 8, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Titans End Regular Season With Shutout Win

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team scored twice in each half, including Nicole Kunick's (So. • Green Bay) goal just 14 seconds into play, to defeat the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), 4-0, on Sunday (Oct. 26) in Duluth, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh's victory over its first-time opponent ends the 2003 regular season for the Titans with a 14-4-2 record. The 14 wins represent the second-highest total in the 11-year history of the UW-Oshkosh program, bettered only by the 15 victories in 2000.

UW-Oshkosh finished its WIAC schedule with a 5-2-1 record, but the Titans must wait until Wednesday (Oct. 29) to see if their 2003 season continues. If UW-La Crosse (8-4-1/4-2-1 WIAC) loses or ties against UW-Eau Claire (7-9-1/2-4 WIAC) or UW-Whitewater (11-3-1/4-2-1 WIAC) loses or ties against UW-Stevens Point (11-3-2/5-1-1 WIAC) on Wednesday, UW-Oshkosh qualifies as one of four entries to the WIAC Tournament scheduled for November 7-8.

In addition to Kunick's goal, her team-leading 11th of the season, UW-Oshkosh also received scoring strikes against the College of St. Scholastica (12-7-1) from Amanda Delk (So. • Mt. Horeb), Michelle John (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) and Tina Wiesner (Fr. • Racine). Delk's goal at the 31:42 mark of the first half was her fourth of the season, while John's goal at the 52:44 mark of the second half was her fifth and Wiesner's goal at the 84:33 mark of the second period was her third.

UW-Oshkosh outshot the College of St. Scholastica by a 35-10 count. UW-Oshkosh's shutout was its 11th of the season and was a combined effort of goalkeepers Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) and Christine Barutha (So. • Brookfield). Tomjanovich played 64:57 in the goal and made two saves for the Titans, while Barutha played 25:03 with no save opportunities.

Titans Swat Yellowjackets In WIAC Finale

Receiving two goals each from Sandie Brink (Sr. • Fond du Lac), Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay) and Stacy Stroud (So. • New Berlin), the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team won its WIAC regular season finale by an 8-0 count over UW-Superior on Saturday (Oct. 25) in Superior.

UW-Oshkosh, which concluded league play with a 5-2-1 record, can qualify for the four-team WIAC Tournament on November 7-8 if UW-La Crosse (8-4-1/4-2-1 WIAC) loses or ties against UW-Eau Claire (7-9-1/2-4 WIAC) or UW-Whitewater (11-3-1/4-2-1 WIAC) loses or ties against UW-Stevens Point (11-3-2/5-1-1 WIAC) on Wednesday (Oct. 29).

UW-Oshkosh (13-4-2) dominated UW-Superior (5-11-2/0-8 WIAC) from nearly start to finish as the Titans posted their 11th straight win over the Yellowjackets. UW-Oshkosh scored on two of its 29 shots in the first half and six of its 18 attempts in the second. UW-Superior was held without a shot in the contest.

Stroud kicked off UW-Oshkosh's scoring parade by sending a shot into the net at the 22:41 mark of the first half. The Titans' advantage went to 2-0 on Reinke's goal at the 44:30 mark of the opening period.

In the second half, UW-Oshkosh changed the score on a pair of goals by Brink and one each by Stroud, Reinke, Nikki Goes (Fr. • Mokena, Ill.) and Amanda Shockley (Fr. • Whitewater). The goals were Reinke's ninth and 10th of the year, Stroud's sixth and seventh, Brink's third and fourth and both Goes' and Shockley's first.

UW-Oshkosh had three goalkeepers see time in the match as Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) played 33:10, Christine Barutha (So. • Brookfield), 37:50, and Tamie Kolasinski (Fr. • Menasha), 19:00.

Titans Continue Drive For WIAC Tournament Bid

Goals by Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda) and Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) helped the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team defeat previously once-beaten UW-Whitewater, 2-1, on Wednesday (Oct. 22) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The win keeps the Titans, who conclude league play at UW-Superior on Saturday (Oct. 25), in prime contention for a spot in the four-team WIAC Tournament scheduled for November 7-8.

Robel gave UW-Oshkosh (12-4-2/4-2-1 WIAC) a 1-0 lead with her fourth goal of the year at the 17:52 mark of the first half. The score stayed that way until Kunick gave the Titans a 2-0 advantage with her team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 81:40 mark of the second period. UW-Whitewater (11-2-1/4-1-1 WIAC) trimmed UW-Oshkosh's lead in half when Jacie Hein scored at the 82:45 mark of the second stanza.

UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Whitewater by a 9-7 tally, with goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) of the Titans making two saves and goalkeeper Jamie Carollo of the Warhawks making one.

By defeating UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh ended its home schedule for the 2003 season with a 9-1-2 record. The win also gave the Titans a 7-3-2 lead in the all-time series with the Warhawks, who entered Wednesday's contest ranked seventh in the Central Region by the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee.

Late Goals Help Titans Defeat Blugolds

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team remained in contention for one of the four available bids to the upcoming WIAC Tournament by defeating UW-Eau Claire, 3-1, on Sunday (Oct. 19) in Eau Claire. The victory was only the second for the Titans over the Blugolds in 15 meetings, with the other win coming in 2001.

UW-Oshkosh (11-4-2/3-2-1 WIAC) and UW-Eau Claire (7-9-1/2-4 WIAC) were scoreless until the Titans' Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay) registered a goal, her sixth of the season, at the 61:20 mark of the second half. UW-Oshkosh's lead lasted just a little over seven minutes as UW-Eau Claire's Kacie Fry tied the match with a goal at the 68:36 mark.

UW-Oshkosh, which needs to defeat UW-Whitewater on October 22 and UW-Superior on October 25 to have a chance at receiving an invitation to the WIAC Tournament, upended UW-Eau Claire with two goals in the final 18 minutes of the match. The Titans took a 2-1 lead on Stacy Stroud's (So. • New Berlin) third goal of the season at the 72:15 mark of the second half and a 3-1 advantage on Tina Wiesner's (Fr. • Racine) second goal of the year at the 87:24 mark.

UW-Eau Claire outshot UW-Oshkosh by a 10-7 count and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh Wins Battle Of The Titans

Tina Wiesner's (Fr. • Racine) goal with 7:37 left in the contest provided the margin of victory as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team edged Illinois Wesleyan University, 2-1, on Friday (Oct. 17) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The match was the first between the two schools, both nicknamed the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh (10-4-2) rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring twice in the final 15 minutes of the match. UW-Oshkosh tied the score on Stacy Stroud's (So. • New Berlin) second goal of the year at the 76:30 mark of the second half and recorded the go-ahead tally on Wiesner's first collegiate goal at the 82:23 mark. Wiesner's goal also made Erin O'Driscoll a winner in her first match as interim head coach of UW-Oshkosh.

Illinois Wesleyan University (8-3-2) broke a scoreless tie when Jenny LaBrenz's shot entered the net at the 55:56 mark of the second half. The visiting Titans outshot the host Titans by a 15-12 count in the match, including 12-6 in the second half.

In defeating sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University, UW-Oshkosh raised its season record to an impressive 2-1-2 against teams currently ranked in the Central Region of the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Previously, UW-Oshkosh defeated 10th-ranked College of St. Benedict (Minn.), tied second-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) and third-ranked UW-Stevens Point and lost to 10th-ranked Elmhurst College (Ill.).

O'Driscoll Named Titans' Interim Head Coach

UW-Oshkosh Director of Athletics Allen Ackerman announced Friday (Oct. 18) the appointment of Erin O'Driscoll as the school's interim head women's soccer coach. O'Driscoll replaces Scott Haywood, who resigned on Wednesday (Oct. 16) after serving as the school's head women's soccer coach since 1999.

O'Driscoll, who played women's soccer for the Titans from 1998 to 2001, has been an assistant coach to Haywood since 2002.

UW-Oshkosh, with O'Driscoll serving as interim head coach, resumed action on Friday (Oct. 17) by defeating Illinois Wesleyan University, 2-1, at the Kolf Sports Complex. The victory gave UW-Oshkosh a season record of 10-4-2, with the Titans' next contest scheduled for Sunday (Oct. 19) at UW-Eau Claire.

Eagles Nip Titans In Overtime

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team suffered only its second loss in 10 matches when it dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 11) in La Crosse. The overtime contest, UW-Oshkosh's fifth of the season, left the Titans with a 6-2-2 record in their last 10 matches.

UW-La Crosse's Jenny Gellerman accounted for the only score in the match as she found the back of the net with her shot at the 6:16 mark of the overtime period (96:16 overall). Gellerman's fourth goal of the year came off the rebound of a shot taken by teammate Mandy Rue.

UW-Oshkosh (9-4-2/2-2-1 WIAC) outshot UW-La Crosse (6-4/2-2) by a 15-11 count in the match, with goalkeepers Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) of the Titans and Stephanie Harbaugh of the Eagles each making six saves. The goal allowed by Tomjanovich was just her fifth of the season.

UW-La Crosse, which has a four-match winning streak for the first time since 1999, leads the all-time series against UW-Oshkosh by an 11-3 count.

Titans End Pointers' National Record Streak

Goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) halted six shots as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team held on for a scoreless double overtime tie with five-time defending WIAC champion and regionally-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Oct. 8) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The tie ends UW-Stevens Point's NCAA Division III record for consecutive conference regular season and tournament victories at 70 matches.

UW-Stevens Point (9-2-2/4-0-1 WIAC), which began its historic streak with a 3-2 win over UW-River Falls in 1997 (Sept. 13), outshot UW-Oshkosh (9-3-2/2-1-1 WIAC) by a 20-7 count in the match. The Pointers took 13 shots in regulation, four in the first overtime period and three in the second, while the Titans attempted six scoring strikes in regulation and one in the first overtime frame. UW-Stevens Point, ranked fifth in the Central Region of the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, also had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Tomjanovich played all 110 minutes in the goal for the Titans as she recorded her sixth shutout of the year and lowered her goals against average on the season to 0.29. She also played 110 minutes in the goal of UW-Oshkosh's scoreless double overtime tie with nationally-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) on September 23.

Melissa Meister made five saves as she played the entire match in the goal for UW-Stevens Point, now 113-1-3 in its last 117 WIAC regular season and tournament contests.

UW-Oshkosh, 0-11-1 all-time against UW-Stevens Point, has now held 10 of its 14 opponents this season scoreless. The double overtime contest was the Titans' fourth of the season, all in the last eight matches.

Titans Record Ninth Shutout Of Year

Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay) tallied her third goal in two matches as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team trimmed UW-Stout, 1-0, on Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Reinke broke a scoreless contest between the two cross-state league rivals by finding the back of the net with her shot at the 51:35 mark of the second half. Reinke, who had two goals in the Titans' 5-0 win over Lawrence University on Tuesday (Sept. 30), gained her score against the Blue Devils on an assist from Stacy Stroud (So. • New Berlin).

UW-Oshkosh improved to 9-3-1 on the season (2-1 WIAC) after recording its ninth shutout of the year. The Titans have shutout three of their last four opponents at the Kolf Sports Center Complex, including nationally-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) in a 0-0 double overtime tie on September 23.

UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Stout (7-4/2-3 WIAC) by a 16-6 count in the match, with Reinke taking five attempts and Stroud three. The Blue Devils, who trail the all-time series against the Titans by a 7-2-2 tally, took four of their shots in the first half.

Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Titans as she recorded her fifth shutout of the season. Tomjanovich stopped three opposing scoring strikes to lower her goals against average on the year to 0.32.

Titans Bounce Back To Shutout Vikings

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team rebounded from a double overtime loss in its last match by defeating Lawrence University, 5-0, on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. UW-Oshkosh's shutout, its eighth of the season, follows a 2-1 loss in extended play to UW-River Falls on September 27.

Karin Reinke (Jr. • Green Bay) ignited the Titans to their seventh victory over the Vikings in nine meetings by scoring just 2:53 into the match. Reinke's goal came on UW-Oshkosh's second scoring attempt of the match. Reinke would later add her second goal of the contest and fourth of the year at the 67:45 mark of the second half.

Michelle John (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) also recorded a pair of goals for the Titans, scoring at the 17:49 mark of the first half and at the 72:31 mark of the second. The goals were John's third and fourth of the year.

UW-Oshkosh's third score of the match belonged to Amanda Delk (So. • Mt. Horeb), who tallied her third goal of the season at the 31:14 mark of the opening period.

UW-Oshkosh (8-3-1) held Lawrence University (2-7) without a shot until late in the second half. In all, the Titans outshot the Vikings, 24-2. UW-Oshkosh had three players share the goalkeeping duties as Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) saw 16:13 of action, Christine Barutha (So. • Brookfield) 28:47 and Tamie Kolasinski (Fr. • Menasha) 45:00.

Falcons Rally Late To Edge Titans

Sarah Carlson scored with just 14.8 seconds left in the second overtime period to give the UW-River Falls women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Sept. 27) at a rain-soaked Kolf Sports Center Complex. The double overtime affair was the third in the Titans' last three home matches, following a 2-1 win over the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) on September 14 and a 0-0 tie with Wheaton College (Ill.) on September 23.

UW-Oshkosh (7-3-1/1-1 WIAC), which allowed just three goals in its previous 14 home matches, took a 1-0 lead on Nicole Kunick's (So. • Green Bay) scoring strike at the 34:54 mark of the first period. Assisting on Kunick's team-leading ninth goal of the year was Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda).

UW-Oshkosh appeared to have the match in control, but with just 3:17 left in the second period UW-River Falls' Ashley Peterson tied the contest with her first goal of the season. In overtime, UW-Oshkosh had three shots in the first period of extra play and UW-River Falls (6-1/3-1 WIAC) two in the second, with the Falcons' last attempt deciding the match.

Both teams took 13 shots in the contest as UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) made six saves and UW-River Falls goalkeeper Apryl Jennrich four.

Titans Battle Second-Ranked Thunder To Tie

Goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) made eight saves, including several diving stops, to help the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team play to a scoreless double overtime tie with nationally-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) on Tuesday (Sept. 23) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Wheaton College (5-0-2), a quarterfinal round participant in last year's NCAA Division III Championship, entered its match against UW-Oshkosh (7-2-1) as the second-ranked team in the country. With its lofty ranking, Wheaton College became the highest-ranked women's soccer team to ever play UW-Oshkosh.

Tomjanovich, who has allowed just one score in 506-plus minutes in the goal this season, made two saves in the first half, five in the second and one in the second overtime period. The scoring attempts were part of 21 shots taken by Wheaton College. UW-Oshkosh was limited to just five shots in the contest, with three belonging to Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay).

UW-Oshkosh, which dropped its previous three contests against Wheaton College, has yielded just four goals during its 10 matches played this year. While going 11-2-1 in their last 14 home contests the Titans have allowed just three goals, with one coming this season.

Titans Silence Kohawks

Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) scored two of her three goals in the first 17 minutes of the match as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team dismantled Coe College, 6-0, on Sunday (Sept. 21) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The shutout was UW-Oshkosh's sixth of the season, including the second in as many days after the Titans topped UW-Platteville, 2-0, on Saturday (Sept. 20).

Kunick recorded her first career hat trick by scoring goals at the 5:26 and 16:35 marks of the first half and at the 47:50 mark of the second. Kunick, who tallied four goals last season, leads this year's squad in goals scored with eight.

In addition to Kunick, UW-Oshkosh (7-2) also received goals from Kristi Olejnik (Jr. • Elm Grove) at the 32:22 mark of the first half and Felisha Gapinski (Fr. • Gurnee, Ill.) and Kristin Schaller (Fr. • Milton) at the 70:21 and 74:00 marks of the second, respectively. Olejnik and Schaller each have two goals on the year, while Gapinski has one.

UW-Oshkosh, which won for the third time in four meetings with Coe College (4-4), limited the Kohawks to just one shot in the match while taking 20 of its own.

Titans Win WIAC Opener

Stacy Stroud (So. • New Berlin) tallied her first goal of the season and Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) her fifth as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team won its 2003 WIAC opener with a 2-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Saturday (Sept. 20) in Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh (6-2/1-0 WIAC) took a quick 1-0 lead over the host Pioneers (1-7/0-3 WIAC) when Stroud found the back of the net with her shot just 4:50 into the contest. The scoring attempt was one of 10 recorded by the Titans in the first half and one of three taken by Stroud in the match.

In the second period, UW-Oshkosh's one-goal advantage held up until Kunick expanded on her team-leading goal count at the 78:23 mark of the frame. The shot was Kunick's fourth of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) made a save on both of UW-Platteville's shots in the match, with one stop coming in each half. The saves allowed Tomjanovich to record her third shutout of the year and help the Titans defeat the Pioneers for the 11th straight time.

Titans Banish Blazers In Overtime

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team returned the favor on last year's double overtime loss to the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) by defeating the Blazers 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday (Sept. 14) at a rain-soaked Kolf Sports Center Complex. UW-Oshkosh's victory was the first in five meetings with the College of St. Benedict, which entered the match as the fifth-ranked team in the Central Region of the NCAA Division III.

Erin Katzenberg (Sr. • Burlington) gave UW-Oshkosh (5-2) reason to celebrate as her breakaway goal on an assist from Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda) ended the contest at the 107:11 mark of the second overtime period. Katzenberg's goal, her first of the season, followed a save by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) that extended play earlier in the period. Tomjanovich had five saves in the contest.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead at the 16:50 mark of the first period on Michelle John's (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) second goal of the season. The Titans held the lead until the Blazers' Lisa Bennett tied the match with her goal at the 31:11 mark of the opening stanza.

The College of St. Benedict (4-2) outshot UW-Oshkosh, 14-9, in the game.

Titans Master Oles

Scoring all of its goals in the first half, the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team defeated St. Olaf College, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 13) at a rain-soaked Kolf Sports Center Complex. The first meeting between the two schools ended with UW-Oshkosh recording its fourth shutout of the season.

Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) changed the scoreboard quickly as she made the count 1-0 in favor of UW-Oshkosh with her goal just 3:21 into the match. Assisting on Kunick's team-leading fourth goal of the year was goalkeeper Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay).

UW-Oshkosh (4-2) concluded its scoring with goals by Kristen Malmstrom (So. • Brookfield) and Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda) at the 25:56 and 44:50 marks of the first half, respectively. Assisting on Robel's goal was Stacy Stroud (So. • New Berlin).

Tomjanovich played all 90 minutes in the goal for UW-Oshkosh as she posted her third shutout of the year. She has yet to allow a goal in 277 minutes played this season.

UW-Oshkosh outshot St. Olaf College (1-4), 13-4, with all of the Oles' shots coming in the first half.

Spartans Trip Titans

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team suffered its second one-goal loss in four days when it dropped a 2-1 decision to Aurora University on Wednesday (Sept. 10) in Aurora, Ill. The Titans' loss comes on the heel of Sunday's (Sept. 7) 1-0 setback to Elmhurst College, also played in the state of Illinois.

Aurora University (3-1) made the most of its one shot in the opening frame as Jessica Reczak tied the contest at 1-1 with her goal at the 23:40 mark of the first half. Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) gave UW-Oshkosh (3-2) a quick 1-0 advantage with her goal at the 11:27 mark of the first half. Assisting on the Titans' goal was Kristin Schaller (Fr. • Milton). UW-Oshkosh took 15 shots in the match, with nine coming in the first half.

Taking three shots in the second half, Aurora University scored the game-winning goal on Hilary O'Friel's attack at the 65:58 mark of the final period.

The Spartans, who become only the third of the Titans' last 16 opponents to score multiple goals, now lead the all-time series against UW-Oshkosh by a 2-1 count. Aurora University defeated UW-Oshkosh last year, 3-2.

Bluejays Nip Titans In Clash Of Unbeatens

Elmhurst College's Kelly Huson scored the lone goal of the match as the Bluejays defeated UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, in a women's soccer match held Sunday (Sept. 7) in Elmhurst, Ill. The goal was just the first allowed by UW-Oshkosh in four matches this season and only the sixth yielded by the Titans in their last 15 contests.

Following a scoreless first half which saw Elmhurst College take seven shots and UW-Oshkosh five, Huson registered her second goal of the year off a corner kick from Nicole Schuette in the 67th minute of the second period. Huson's shot was one of nine for Elmhurst College (3-0) in the second half. UW-Oshkosh (3-1) took six shots in the second stanza.

Elmhurst College's Amy LeFurgy posted her second shutout of the the season by stopping six shots on goal. Christine Barutha (So. • Brookfield) allowed the lone Bluejay goal and took the loss in net for UW-Oshkosh. Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) played the final 24 minutes for the Titans in the goal, recording two saves.

The meeting was the third between the two schools, with Elmhurst College holding a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. The Bluejays also defeated the Titans, 1-0, last year in Oshkosh.

Titans Overrun Cardinals

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team counted four goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to pull away and pummel St. Mary's University (Minn.), 6-0, on Saturday (Sept. 6) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. UW-Oshkosh has now begun the 2003 season with three straight shutouts, outscoring its opposition, 14-0.

UW-Oshkosh (3-0) took a 2-0 lead to intermission on a pair of own goals, scoring at the 7:30 and 14:15 marks of the first half. The Titans outshot the Cardinals (1-3) in the opening stanza, 13-0, but were unable get the ball past a pair of visiting goalies on their own.

Scoring quickly at the start of the second half, UW-Oshkosh turned a tight contest into a rout. The Titans increased their lead to 3-0 just 45 seconds into the second half on Michelle John's (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) first career goal.

Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) and Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda) then followed with goals at the 48:30 and 51:35 marks of the second half, respectively, to build UW-Oshkosh's advantage to 5-0. UW-Oshkosh closed its scoring on Amanda Delk's (So. • Mt. Horeb) first career goal at the 52:28 mark of the final period.

Titans Rout Falcons

Scoring three times in each half, the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team overwhelmed Concordia University, 6-0, on Saturday (Aug. 30) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The shutout was the Titans' 10th in their last 13 matches, including the second in as many days.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0) entered the scoring column against Concordia University (0-1) at the 9:45 mark of the first half on Karin Reinke's (Jr. • Oneida) second goal of the year. The Titans also received first-half tallies from Amy Robel (Sr. • Muscoda) and Kristi Olejnik (Jr. • Elm Grove) at the 26:51 and 37:20 marks, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's scoring parade continued in the second half as Amanda Delk (So. • Mt. Horeb), Kristin Schaller (Fr. • Milton) and Amy U'Ren (So. • Mt. Horeb) all recorded their first career goal at the 72:14, 78:40 and 81:09 marks of the period, respectively. Robel also assisted on U'Ren's goal.

UW-Oshkosh, which has won all four of its meetings with Concordia University, had Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay), Christine Barutha (So. • Brookfield) and Tamie Kolasinski (Fr. • Menasha) all see action in the goal.

Titans Shutout Green Knights In Season Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team avenged one of its 10 losses from a year ago by defeating St. Norbert College, 2-0, on Friday (Aug. 29) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The contest was the 2003 season opener for both teams.

UW-Oshkosh, which suffered a 2-1 setback to St. Norbert College last year, broke a scoreless battle late in the first half when Nicole Kunick (So. • Green Bay) found the back of the net with her shot just 1:54 before intermission. Kunick's goal was the only score of the first half, with UW-Oshkosh (1-0) also having five other shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes and St. Norbert College (0-1) three.

In the second half, UW-Oshkosh outshot St. Norbert College, 10-1. The only goal of the final period came at the 62:00 mark when the Titans' Karin Reinke (Jr. • Oneida) slipped her unassisted shot past St. Norbert College goalkeeper Maggie Herriges. Reinke also assisted on Kunick's first half goal.

UW-Oshkosh, which now leads the all-time series with St. Norbert College by a 4-3-1 count, had Sara Tomjanovich (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) play all 90 minutes in the goal.
