Titans Win Twice By Fall During Loss To Nationally Ranked Eagles

Jordan Lemcke and AJ Schoenfuss recorded pins while Colten Cashmore earned his 21st win of the season during UW-Oshkosh's 37-15 loss to the three-time defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse wrestling team on Thursday (Jan. 23) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-La Crosse, ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, won the first four bouts on Thursday before Cashmore cut the Titans' deficit to 21-3 with his 4-2 victory over Isaac Lahr at 197 pounds. The win improved Cashmore's season record to 21-8 (3 pins) and his four-year career mark to 84-40 (14 pins).

Lemcke followed Cashmore's victory with his pin of Isaac Gust in 6:07 at 285 pounds. The pin was Lemcke's fourth of the season.

UW-La Crosse (7-4, 3-0 WIAC) extended its lead over UW-Oshkosh (3-9, 1-3) to 27-9 in the next bout before Schoenfuss pinned the Eagles' Brandon Murphy in 2:25 at 133 pounds. Schoenfuss, who finished second in the 125-pound weight class at last year's WIAC Championship, tallied his fourth pin of the year.

UW-La Crosse had four wrestlers win by fall – Grant Zamin at 157 pounds, Connor Williams at 184, Tristan Jenny at 125 and Hayden Schlough 141.

Zamin, the defending WIAC champion at 157 pounds, pinned UW-Oshkosh's Muzi Sitshela in 5:59 while Williams stuck Bryce Herlache to the mat in 1:42. Jenny had a pin in 4:55 over Denis Murphy and Schlough a pin in 2:08 over Kobe Allen.

The Eagles, who have won 64 of their last 71 WIAC dual matches, also received wins on Thursday from Nick Fetzner at 165 pounds, Mitch Hertel at 174 and Tyler Shackle at 149.

Fetzner defeated Oscar Ramos, 16-1 (6:17), while Hertel ousted AJ Stengel, 11-0. Shackle was a 16-2 winner over Titan Brandon Lenczner.

UW-Oshkosh marked its highest team score against UW-La Crosse since a 20-15 defeat to the Eagles on Jan. 17, 2012.

The Titans close out their 2019-20 home schedule with Saturday's (Jan. 25) dual match in Kolf Sports Center against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
