Titans Have Three Winners In Dual Loss To Eagles

Two-time All-American Mark Choinski remained unbeaten and freshman Beau Yineman with just one loss on the season following their victories during UW-Oshkosh's 29-13 defeat to nationally ranked UW-La Crosse on Thursday (Jan. 11) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse, ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, won the first five bouts of Thursday's match before Choinski defeated the Eagles' Grant Zimin, 9-1, at 165 pounds to make the score 22-4. Choinski, ranked second in the country, improved his season record to 16-0 (5 pins) and career mark to 77-13 (22 pins) with the win.

UW-Oshkosh (5-5, 2-2 WIAC) cut its deficit to 26-13 on consecutive wins by Colten Cashmore at 184 pounds and the sixth-ranked Yineman at 197. Cashmore pinned Adam Gusky in 3:15 while Yineman defeated Cullen Bauer-Trottier, 8-3, to raise their records to 14-4 (4 pins) and 17-1 (2 pins) on the season, respectively.

UW-La Crosse (9-3, 3-0 WIAC) had two pins in the match as Tristan Jenny stuck AJ Schoenfuss to the mat in 43 seconds at 125 pounds while Danny Madonia glued Corey Knudsen to the surface in 4:01 at 149.

The Eagles won a pair of three-point decisions early in the match as Alex Kern defeated Zach McDowell, 7-4, at 133 pounds while Hayden Schlough ousted Wesam Alabed, 8-5, at 141.

UW-La Crosse, which has won 59 of its last 66 WIAC dual matches, made the score 22-0 over UW-Oshkosh with Logan Schlough's 8-0 victory over Devin Keast at 157 pounds.

Following Choinski's win, UW-La Crosse built its lead to 26-4 with Reed Williams' 13-3 triumph over Bryce Herlache at 174 pounds.

The two-time defending WIAC champion Eagles closed the match with Konrad Ernst's 8-3 victory over Jordan Lemcke at 285 pounds. Ernst, the fourth-ranked wrestler in the country, trailed 3-2 before earning a take down and four-point near fall in the final minute of the bout. 

UW-Oshkosh travels to North Manchester, Ind., on Saturday (Jan. 12) to compete at Manchester University's Spartan Mat Classic.
