Titans Record Road Win Over Pointers

UW-Oshkosh built an early nine-point advantage and then won two of its final three bouts to defeat the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team, 24-16, on Tuesday (Nov. 20) in Stevens Point.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0, 2-0 WIAC), which has won two of its last three road matches against the Pointers, took a quick 6-0 lead in Tuesday's contest following AJ Schoenfuss' forfeit victory at 125 pounds.

UW-Stevens Point (0-2, 0-2 WIAC) earned four team points back in the next bout as Matt Berlin defeated Titan Zach McDowell, 12-4, at 133 pounds.

Wesam Alabed and Corey Knudsen then extended UW-Oshkosh's lead to 13-4 with their victories at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Alabed defeated Zane Struber, 12-4, while Knudsen ousted Blaz Daul, 6-1.

UW-Stevens Point won two of the next three bouts, including Luke Smiley's pin of Titan Mike Baumann in 1:38 at 157 pounds, to cut its deficit against the Titans to 17-13. The Pointers also received a 10-7 win from James Borgen over Husam Alabed at 174 pounds.

Sandwiched between the two UW-Stevens Point victories was an 8-0 win for UW-Oshkosh's Mark Choinski over Jordan Weinzetl at 165 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh secured its win over the Pointers with consecutive victories by Colten Cashmore at 184 pounds and Beau Yineman at 197. Cashmore edged Zack Moon, 3-2, while Yineman defeated Jerry Lipke, 14-6, to give the Titans a 24-13 lead.

UW-Stevens Point created the contest's final score with Steven Anderson's 6-4 victory over Jordan Lemcke at 285 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it wrestles at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Dec. 1.
