Defending WIAC Champion Eagles Handcuff Titans

Mark Choinski and Michael Dunlap earned all of UW-Oshkosh's points during the Titans' 37-10 loss to the nationally ranked and defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse wrestling team on Saturday (Jan. 13) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-La Crosse, ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, had three pins in the match as Wesley Schultz stuck Jordan Lemcke to the mat in 4:01 at 197 pounds, Sawyer Massie glued Husam Alabed to the surface in 4:04 at 174 and Nelson Baker attached Damien McCray to the pad in 4:14 at 125.

Choinski, ranked second in the country at 157 pounds, improved his record to 11-0 on the season by defeating the Eagles' Michael Murnane, 11-3. Choinski's victory cut UW-La Crosse's lead over the Titans to 18-4.

Trailing 37-4, UW-Oshkosh (2-7, 0-4 WIAC) tallied the final points of the match on Dunlap's forfeit victory at 285 pounds. The win improved Dunlap's record to 8-6 (2 pins) on the season.

UW-La Crosse (8-3, 2-0 WIAC) scored 12 or more points in four of its remaining five victories, including Spencer Nevills' 17-0 win over Corey Knudsen at 149 pounds and Mitch Hertel's 17-8 triumph over Nate Arquinego at 165. The Eagles also had Sawyer Sarbacker defeat Anthony Senthavisouk, 15-3, at 133 pounds and Reid Johnson oust Wesam Alabed, 12-7, at 141.

UW-La Crosse's list of winners concluded with Sean O'Neil's 4-0 decision over Colten Cashmore at 184 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering in its final home match of the season on Thursday (Jan. 18).
