Warhawks Pull Away From Titans During Second Half Of Match
UW-Whitewater won five of the last six contests to erase a two-point deficit and defeat the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team, 33-17, on Tuesday (Nov. 7) in Whitewater.
UW-Oshkosh (0-1, 0-1 WIAC) built a 14-12 lead with the help of a double-forfeit at 125 pounds and wins by Wesam Alabed and Corey Knudsen at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Alabed edged Jaime Valdez, 6-3, while Knudsen trounced Tommy George, 17-1.
UW-Whitewater (1-0, 1-0 WIAC) took the lead for good at 16-14 when Austin Quartullo defeated Nate Arquinego by a 14-6 score at 157 pounds. UW-Whitewater then extended its advantage to 19-14 on Ryder Sigler's 10-3 victory over Husam Alabed at 165 pounds.
Following a 16-0 win by the Warhawks' Nicholas Bonomo over AJ Stengel at 174 pounds, UW-Oshkosh sliced its deficit to 24-17 on Colten Cashmore's 3-2 victory over Christian Dischler at 184.
UW-Whitewater then closed the match with Jordan Newman's pin in 59 seconds over Jordan Lemcke at 197 pounds and Dylan Uzumecki's 3-0 triumph over Tory Jandrin at 285.
The Warhawks followed the match-opening double-forfeit with Hazen Rice's pin in 6:20 over Anthony Senthavisouk.
UW-Oshkosh commences its home schedule by hosting the 15th Annual Dan Gable Open on Saturday (Nov. 11) in Kolf Sports Center.
