Titans To Wrestle At NCAA Regional
Admittance to the national championship will be up for grabs when wrestlers from UW-Oshkosh and 10 other teams compete at the NCAA Division III West Regional on Saturday (Feb. 25) in Moorhead, Minn.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. in Concordia College's Memorial Auditorium.
In addition to UW-Oshkosh, wrestlers from Augsburg College (Minn.), Concordia College (Minn.), Concordia University Wisconsin, Lakeland University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Pacific University (Ore.), Saint John's University (Minn.), St. Olaf College (Minn.), UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville will also participate at the meet.
UW-Oshkosh will be represented in this year's regional by Anthony Senthavisouk (9-12, 2 Pins) at 125 pounds, Jonathan Flores (3-10) at 133, Kody Azarian (8-2, 1 Pin) at 141, Joe Pelkey (7-10) at 149, Mark Choinski (19-2, 7 Pins) at 157, Aristide Serrano (9-18) at 165, Colten Cashmore (14-11, 2 Pins) at 174, Julius Smith (6-6, 1 Pin) at 184, John DePersia (11-19, 3 Pins) at 197 and Elijah Burdick (10-11, 4 Pins) at 285.
Last year, host Augsburg College won the 11-team meet with 155.5 points. The 12-time national champion Auggies were followed by second-place Concordia College with 124 points, third-place UW-Platteville with 104, fourth-place UW-Eau Claire with 90, fifth-place Saint John's University with 78, sixth-place Concordia University Wisconsin with 46, seventh-place Lakeland University with 42.5 and eighth-place UW-Oshkosh with 39.5.
Pelkey finished fourth for the Titans in the 157-pound weight class at last year's regional, while Choinski placed fifth at 149. Other UW-Oshkosh wrestlers back from a year ago are Burdick, DePersia and Smith.
Flores and Pelkey also competed for the Titans at the 2015 regional.
A total of 30 wrestlers, the top three finishers in each weight class, will qualify from this year's West Regional to the NCAA Division III Championship on March 11-12 at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wis.
