Titans Have Three Fourth-Place Finishers In Iowa

Alan Dahlke, Rashaam Hill and Korey Kleinhans led the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team with fourth-place finishes at the Flash Flanagan Open hosted by Loras College (Iowa) on Saturday (Jan. 10) in Dubuque.

Dahlke split his first two matches in the 197-pound bracket, falling 10-1 to Eric Peissig of NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin before pinning Maurice Wilborn of Division II Upper Iowa University in 4:54. Dahlke won on a medical forfeit against NCAA Division I University of Northern Iowa's Christian Dulaney to advance to the third-place match, where he dropped a 5-2 decision to Regis Durbin of NCAA Division I Northwestern University (Ill.).

Hill lost his first match at 125 pounds to Anthony Pascente of Triton College (Ill.), 8-0. He bounced back to claim a 7-2 victory over Triton College's Giovani Phan before being pinned in 2:11 by Triton College's Daniel Emma in the third-place match.

Kleinhans lost his opening match of the 184-pound bracket, 8-4, to Blake Reid of NCAA Division I Purdue University (Ind.). He reached the third-place match with victories of 18-3 over Michael Ladaika and 10-4 over Joseph Shue from the University of Dubuque. Kleinhans lost the third-place bout, 7-4, to Brett Hochstaetter of the University of Wisconsin.

UW-Oshkosh's Jonathan Flores turned in a fifth-place performance at 133 pounds. Flores was defeated, 15-0, by University of Wisconsin's Jens Lantz in the opener and responded with a pin in 4:50 of the University of Northern Iowa's Darrin Eades and an 8-6 victory over Upper Iowa University's Bailey Roehr. Following a loss on a pin to unattached Rudy Johnson, Flores won the fifth-place match by a medical forfeit over Upper Iowa University's Dakota Wangsness.

UW-Oshkosh's Matt Veneskey placed sixth in the 285-pound category. He opened with a 5-0 win over Luke Perkins of Loras College (Iowa) and a 3-1 overtime victory over University of Wisconsin's Tyler Schmidt. He then lost on a pin in 4:08 to Jake McKiernan of NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in the semifinals. Veneskey finished by falling in 4:57 to Conan Jennings of Northwestern University and getting edged, 3-1, by NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University's Jake Cochrane in the sixth-place match.

The Titans also had David Leisgang post a 3-2 record at 141 pounds. Hunter Mulock and Joe Pelkey at 149 pounds, Derek Hermanson at 157, Parker Knueppel at 165, and Michael Berg at 174 were each winless in two decisions.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Jan. 14).
