Titans Finish Seventh At MSOE Invitational

Craig Mason finished second and David Leisgang fourth in the 141-pound weight class to help the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team place seventh at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational held Saturday (Dec. 6) in Milwaukee.

Central College (Iowa) captured the team title with 148 points, while Concordia University Wisconsin finished second with 107.5. UW-Platteville placed third in the 10-team meet with 77.5 points, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth with 75 and Milwaukee School of Engineering fifth with 70.5. UW-Oshkosh finished seventh with 46 points.

Mason received a bye before defeating Joshua Curcio of Concordia University Wisconsin, 12-7, and Matt Mattingley of Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.), 8-2. Mason then suffered a 13-5 loss to Jordan Richardson of Central College in the championship match.

Leisgang also received a bye in the opening round. He then lost a 5-2 decision to Milwaukee School of Engineering's Justin Wolfenden before receiving another bye. Leisgang followed his second bye with a 5-0 victory over UW-Platteville's Jacob Somann and a pin of Hannibal-LaGrange University's Mattingley in 5:00. Leisgang lost a 9-7 overtime decision to Concordia University Wisconsin's Curcio in his third-place match.

UW-Oshkosh had four wrestlers finish fifth – Jonathan Flores at 133 pounds, Hunter Mulock at 149, Korey Kleinhans at 184 and Alan Dahlke at 197.

Flores compiled a 4-2 record, including a 7-2 victory over Wheaton College's Tom Foy in his fifth-place match. Mulock posted a 7-5 win over Sameh Almousa of St. Olaf College (Minn.) in his fifth-place match to finish the tournament with a 4-2 record. Mulock earlier pinned Wheaton College's Gage Burt in 1:17 and Stuart Morton in 2:04.

Kleinhans and Dahlke both tallied 3-2 records with one pin. Kleinhans won his fifth-place match by a medical forfeit, while Dahlke won his fifth-place contest by a 6-2 result over St. Olaf College's Sam Kuss. Kleinhans had a pin of St. Olaf College's Dane Anderson in 4:06 and Dahlke a pin of Milwaukee School of Engineering's Brett Raymond in 1:42.

Joe Pelkey and Derek Hermanson went winless in two matches for the Titans at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts Lakeland College on Dec. 18 in Kolf Sports Center.
