Titans Take Care Of Blugolds

Brandon Clapper secured UW-Oshkosh's victory with a pin in the final bout as the Titans defeated the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team, 32-20, on Friday (Feb. 7) in Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh (4-8/3-2 WIAC) owned a 26-20 lead before Clapper pinned Justin Karkula in 4:11 of their 285-pound contest. The pin was Clapper's seventh of the season.

After forfeiting the first two matches, UW-Eau Claire (2-12/0-5 WIAC) sliced its deficit to 12-11 on wins by Nathaniel Behnke at 141 pounds and Ryan Seidler at 149. Behnke pinned Joe Pelkey in 1:48, while Seidler defeated Jerome Scott, 18-2.

Two-time NCAA Division III champion Nazar Kulchytskyy then started the first of three straight UW-Oshkosh victories with his pin of Matt Koch in just 45 seconds of their 157-pound bout. Kulchytskyy raised his career record to 126-5 (59 pins) with the win.

UW-Oshkosh increased its advantage to 21-11 with Tom Dahlke's 6-5 victory over Matthew Laugen at 165 pounds. The Titans went ahead 26-11 on Dan Schiferl's 20-2 triumph over Jacob Hoffstatter at 174 pounds. Schiferl upped his career to 84-38 (32 pins) with the victory.

At 184 pounds, UW-Eau Claire's Josh Cormican pinned Korey Kleinhans in 2:47. The Blugolds then closed to within 26-20 on Luke Ortscheid's 9-2 win over Alan Dahlke at 197 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Eau Claire to wrestle at the Blugold Open on Saturday (Feb. 8).
