Titans Finish Third At MSOE Invitational

UW-Oshkosh owned one champion and a pair of second-place finishers at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Wrestling Invitational held Saturday (Dec. 7) in Milwaukee.

The Titans scored 87.5 points to share third place in the team standings with Concordia University Wisconsin. Wheaton College (Ill.) won the 11-team meet with 137.5 points, while Central College (Iowa) finished second with 93.5 and Lakeland College fifth with 73.5.

Two-time NCAA Division III champion Nazar Kulchytskyy led UW-Oshkosh with his first-place finish at 165 pounds. He won the weight class with a 19-4 victory over Stephen Aiello from Wheaton College.

Kulchytskyy advanced to the final with pins of three consecutive opponents. He stuck Dillon Anderson of Central College to the mat in 32 seconds, Robbie Kerr of UW-Platteville in 89 and Casey Kenealy of Concordia University Wisconsin in 39.

UW-Oshkosh's Brandon Clapper finished second after losing a 5-3 decision to Zack Gibson of St. Olaf College (Minn.) in the championship match of the 285-pound weight division.

Like Kulchytskyy, Clapper qualified for the final with three straight pins. He glued Taylor Gohn of Wheaton College to the surface in 4:15, Kyle Andreae of UW-Platteville in 5:20 and Robert Simons of Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) in 1:26.

The Titans other second-place finisher was Dan Schiferl at 174 pounds. Schiferl was pinned in 3:41 by James Roach of St. Olaf College in the title bout.

Schiferl moved to the final with wins of 12-2 over Lenny Kuspa of Concordia University Wisconsin, 13-3 over Logan Walkup of Wheaton College and 17-5 over Sam Apland of Central College.

Finishing third for the Titans was Craig Mason at 133 pounds. Mason lost a 6-5 decision to Aaron Anderson of Central College before pinning Eduardo Orihuela of Lakeland College in 3:30. He took third place with an 8-5 victory over Mason Bohm of UW-Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining top finish belonged to Hunter Mulock at 141 pounds. Mulock placed fourth after dropping a 6-2 result to Juan Diaz of Lakeland College.

Mulock opened his activity with a pin in 39 seconds of Knox College's (Ill.) Rich Thomsen. He then lost on a pin in 2:35 to Jared Fekete of Wheaton College before pinning Caleb Shuck of Hannibal-LaGrange University in 55 seconds and Zachary Zimmerman of Maranatha Baptist Bible College in 1:43.

UW-Oshkosh also received records of 2-2 from Alan Dahlke at 197 pounds, 1-2 from Jerome Scott at 149 and 0-2 from both Scott Worlund at 125 and Korey Kleinhans at 184.

The Titans compete in a dual meet at UW-Whitewater on Friday (Dec. 13).
