Titans Finish Strong To Defeat Pointers

Brandon Clapper secured the victory with a pin in the final contest as the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team rallied to defeat UW-Stevens Point, 22-14, on Tuesday (Nov. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Stevens Point entered the match ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and UW-Oshkosh 27th.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0/1-0 WIAC) trailed 10-6 before earning victories in four of the last five matches. The decisive win belonged to the 285-pound Clapper, who extended the Titans' 16-14 lead with his pin of Jordan Koranda in 4:26.

Courtesy of Nazar Kulchytskyy's 22-9 triumph over Logan Hermsen at 165 pounds, UW-Oshkosh tied the score at 10. The Titans then went ahead 13-10 on Dan Schiferl's 10-5 win over Dylan Diebitz at 174 pounds and 16-10 on Korey Kleinhans' 9-6 victory over Andy Borchardt at 184.

UW-Stevens Point (2-2/0-1 WIAC) pulled to within 16-14 on Dustin Wozniak's 21-11 victory over Jay Howarth at 197 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh opened the match with wins from Scott Worlund at 125 pounds and Craig Mason at 133. Worlund defeated Kris Adams, 4-1, while Mason ousted Lance Fabry, 5-2.

The Pointers erased their early deficit and took a 10-6 lead on victories by David Granatelli at 141 pounds, Trevor Spears at 149 and Jamey Simmons at 157. Granatelli edged Tyler Sinda, 5-2, while Spears beat Hunter Mulock, 10-2. Simmons followed with a 7-0 win over Thomas Dahlke.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Dec. 7.
