Seven Titans Named WCGA Scholar All-Americans

Seven members of the 2019 UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team have been named Scholastic All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).

Jessica Bernardo, Bailey Finin, Emily Gilot, Kaira Hammond, Alyssa Nore, Madison Reiter and Baylee Tkaczuk were all recognized for having a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher during the 2018-19 academic year. All seven Titans were first-time award winners.

The WCGA recognized 784 gymnasts for their academic performance, including 18 from Ithaca College (N.Y.), 17 from UW-La Crosse and 16 each from Lindenwood University (Mo.), Springfield College (Mass.), University of Alabama, West Chester (Pa.) and Winona State University (Minn.).

Bernardo, a junior biology major, recorded a 3.64 GPA this past year. The three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in all 11 meets for the Titans and averaged scores of 36.841 in the all-around competition, 9.382 in the floor exercise, 9.230 on the vault, 9.195 on the balance beam and 9.034 on the uneven bars. Bernardo placed third in the all-around competition, 24th in the floor exercise, 26th on the balance beam and 27th on both the uneven bars and vault at the 2019 National Collegiate Gymnastics (NCGA) Championship held in UW-Oshkosh's Kolf Sports Center.

Finin, a senior nursing major, compiled a 3.57 GPA. The three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in all 11 meets and averaged a floor exercise score of 9.527. Finin placed 21st in the floor exercise at the 2019 NCGA Championship.

Gilot tallied a 3.65 GPA as a freshman kinesiology major. The 2019 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member participated in all 11 meets and averaged scores of 36.658 in the all-around competition, 9.466 on the vault, 9.298 in the floor exercise, 9.200 on the balance beam and 9.005 on the uneven bars. Gilot finished sixth in the floor exercise, eighth on the vault and 16th on the uneven bars at the 2019 NCGA Championship.

Hammond, a freshman kinesiology major, accumulated a 3.89 GPA. The 2019 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in all 11 meets and averaged scores of 9.430 on the balance beam, 9.368 on the uneven bars and 9.318 on the vault. Hammond placed fifth on the uneven bars and 15th on the balance beam at the 2019 NCGA Championship.

Nore recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA as a freshman biology major. The 2019 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in 10 meets and averaged scores of 9.175 in the floor exercise and 9.063 on the balance beam. Nore finished 42nd on the balance beam at the 2019 NCGA Championship.

Reiter, a senior kinesiology major, registered a 3.60 GPA. The two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member participated in one meet and recorded a score of 8.050 in the floor exercise.

Tkaczuk marked a 3.59 GPA as a junior psychology major. The three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member took part in five meets and averaged scores of 9.670 on the balance beam and 9.544 on the uneven bars. Tkaczuk finished fourth on the uneven bars and 18th on the balance beam at the 2019 NCGA Championship.

UW-Oshkosh's 19 gymnasts combined for a 3.36 GPA during the 2018-19 academic year. Boise State University (Idaho) owned a nation-leading 3.77 GPA while Western Michigan University followed at 3.74.
